Came home to find we had 2 new pigs. Apparently a guy up the road from us sold his home and left the animals. The new owners it seems are just investors and set the pigs free where they found their way to our house. My wife said they just strolled up to our front area and laid down in the grass. She gave them some water and food and they started to perk up. We're going to keep them and we have named them Starsky and Hutch. They are pretty sweet little guys and now have a few acres to roam around on. Thinking of running them in a paddock after the chickens and goats have been through to really clear out the weeds and roots. Somehow we just keep accumulating more and more animals.
Here is a picture of the new guys in our side pen

Oh my, people can certainly be irresponsible, can't they? Nice of you to take them in. We took in an old PB pig which was my niece's pet until she moved to a city that didn't allow swine as pets. They live quite a long time and don't get any better looking. Good little garbage disposals though. Here's a pic of Duke in his doterage:

They really are very fuel-efficient; if you want them to stay small, you have to restrict their diet considerably.

They definitely have a face only a mother can love. We were pretty surprised to find out whose they were, the guy had a lot of animals and always seemed to treat them really well. I know he was having some legal issues with the state so I'm hoping he's doing okay and getting everything resolved....

We were reading to pretty much give them 8 ounces of feed a day, does that sound good. They are pretty small for what I have seen of pot bellied. They will essentially be stage 3 of pasture rotation so I think they won't have that much to forage on. It's good to have another animal though that can eat the scraps the chickens can't and the goats wont, plus the kids already love them.

We got a bag of potbellied pig feed from the feed store this morning. The girl said to just give them a cup, I guess not 8 ounces by weight, but by size?

Someone actually came and got them a while after we did. Apparently it was a different set of pigs who were set free down the road and these pigs were just from a guy who moved in down the road. Kind of didn't want to give them up after we had had them for so long, and felt like if they took this long to get the pigs, they obviously weren't the best owners, but what can you do. We live in a really rural area where everyone knows everyone and they all knew we had the pigs. There is a rescue down the way that has some pigs so when the turkeys can move out of our side yard pen we will pick up a couple little guys, they were really fun to have around and after a couple of days were like dogs following us around.
