Check you jugs, folks! Hilarious! I've only wintersown 6 jugs of seeds (in January), and hadn't looked at them since. The weather has been freezing cold and snowy, with just a few warm days here and there. Nice day today (supposed to hit 70°) and by tomorrow night a low of 15°.

Mimulus wins the race this year for first wintersown sprouts. There are just a few (4 I think). I tried to get a photo but ... I'm no photographer. I've never grown mimulus before. I'm seeing conflicting info online about it being a HA or HHA- not sure which it is?

Well, it's not spring yet. Not for another 6 days. And when I say wintersown, I really mean the general technique of outside in milk jugs, as opposed to inside under lights.

Hey Karen.... good to stumble upon you in here. I've been absent too long... I really need to spend more time in ATP. [without a bookmark, i tend to forget about it.] Was thinking of you not long ago... and always wonder what happened to Jan from the WS forum.

anyhooo.... I did a few, maybe 11 WS containers back in jan. have been in FLA so have not had the chance to check on them, but I think I will be home in 9 days.

Good to see so many old friends.

I know Karen... was just playing with words Smiling
I think my wintersowing is not that good.
As my garden is 10 km away, I can't just leave pots around all winter even though I visit my parents sometimes.
I just feel responsible for them:)
SO.,...the ones I do have all winter on balcony, are usually overwatered ... my hobby in winter is to check them with a sprinkler and when I think some pots are too "dry" I water them.

I've had better results with the ones I sowed towards the end of winter, like end of Feb.

No w/s sprouts here yet, but then again, that's probably a good thing...the real-feel is -2 here right now.

Karen,
For myself at least, in our area, I most often think of them as hardy annuals. Smiling

Thanks, Chelle. I really didn't think they'd stand up well to our hot humid summers.

I have none either. I think they are still frozen.
I may move my 'box' of container into the sun to thaw them out.

I think I need to start some "spring-sown" annuals. I'm absolutely out of room under my grow lights; I just need to make sure the weather isn't going to be snowy/cold as it was again this weekend. Please hurry up, Spring

Yup, I'm still stuck with some seed packets in the drawers. But I kept leaving the ones that need warmth and are somewhat easier to germinate.
I always seem to think I could sow more seeds than I actually can.

We all do that I think!
Here it is 6 to 8 weeks of possible chill, so I am looking for seeds that require short period of chill.
And indoors:--- the ones which should be started 6 to 8 weeks before last frost.

I checked my jugs yesterday Smiling There are a few borage sprouts. Those tiny green specks of mimulus are still there. No bigger, but they didn't disappear. I expected them to freeze out in the deep freeze weather. So, so far, only 2 out of 12 jugs sprouted.

I potted up a couple of trays of begonias yesterday which had outgrown their oversized cells. They're in 4" pots now but they didn't fit under my lights. My husband helped me and we disassembled a set of light shelves and reassembled it to accommodate begonias with stakes, and made one shorter shelf for a few new seeds that I sowed yesterday. But there's still one tray that's not under lights so some of these kids have to move out of the house today!
