You know, I was always ambivalent about the painted plants until my last visit to WM when they were the ONLY "house plants" for sale (still alive - I think - but how would one know if they aren't yet mushy?) I felt like they were on par with glittered poinsettias and faux bonsais, annuals that people use knowing they'll be killed by winter. But when they constitute the whole of the house plant display, I'm offended and irritated. House plant people are not shopping for temporary decorations, or want plants that are painted. I would have bought about 10 of those since they look different from what I already have, but not like that!!
I just hope slow sales on these fugly things doesn't translate into thinking there's reduced interest in "house plants" and/or succulents.
Does anyone have any knowledge about how they are listed in 'the system' with BBS's? Are they considered house plants, or more like poinsettias and holiday cacti, boxes of Amaryllis bulbs? If someone just happened to use the house plant space for these since cold weather killed all of the 'real' house plants, I could go back to my former state of blissful ambivalence. I don't mind if there's folks out there who want painted plants, as long as I can buy unpainted ones too.
