This is the Oerstedella genus and is sometimes listed as Epidendrum Oerstedella. The plant is Oerstedella centradenia. Please add the genus or let me know if you want me to list it as the E. O. genus.

Thanks again Ken. Oerstedella centradenia is indeed a synonym of Orchid (Epidendrum centropetalum) and I've added it as such.

Both the Catalog of Life and the Plant List reference the Kew World Checklist for Oerstedella.

If you have a reference(s) where Oerstedella species are commonly used we can update the DB with the synonyms. Thanks.
Evan

I think (but will have to do some digging) that Schomburgkia was the original name. Like so many other orchid genera, it apparently was changed to Myrmecophila. This genus is related to the Laelia genus. These name changes just drive me crazy. I have to go on what the commercial grower has them labeled.

I empathize Ken. I'd imagine the commercial growers have to wait for the ICRA to revise their own nomenclature to agree with the revised taxonomy before updating their own labels and such. It must be an arduous and expensive proposition.

Actually I have spoken to owners of two of the largest grower/hybridizer's in Hawaii about that very same thing. They both told me exactly the same thing. They will neither spend the time nor the money it takes to change all their labeling and listings. They said I COULD CHANGE MY LABELS IF IT BOTHERED ME! LOL
