I am having serious doubts about my Taiyo ever blooming again. Gets foliage, but nothing else. Going to give it one more year, then maybe rehome it if it continues to only produce leaves.

Morning Lilac has an interesting color. I would like to have a peony of that color.

Jerry - I was initially quite disappointed that they sent me the wrong plant, but I have gotten to like Morning Lilac now.

That 'Morning Lilac', is it a tree peony or an intersectional peony? Very lovely Smiling

I thought it was an intersectional peony. Have seen it for sale in prior years. It's a pretty one.

Tracey - I had originally ordered the ITOH Singing in the rain about 4 years ago from Park Seed. I had it in the pot for the first 2 years, and then into the ground in the third year. It bloomed in its 4th year - but it certainly was not Singing in the Rain. I was initially really disappointed because I planted it in my "red, yellow, orange" section of the garden and the lilac color did not go with the theme. But, later on, someone pointed out that the purplish color was picked up by the silene diocia and the azalea further to the right, so it was not totally out of place.

I have since developed a fondness for it. Big Grin

it still clashes with the red charm next to it, but oh, well........

Next up is another of my original noid Tree peonies purchased about 20 years. It blooms faithfully every year. I amend the soil with compost when I prepare the planting hole, and then lightly fertilize maybe every 4-5 years or so. Very carefree plants.

I'm glad to see another pic of Morning Lilac. I ordered it last year. It won't be blooming this year because it was a young plant, but I look forward to when it does.

Thank you for the wonderful pics!

Thanks, all

Pwinget - I am beginning to like it more and more and I am sure you'll be very happy with yours. I cut a bloom and brought it inside - the petals have held up very well. And it is such a vibrant color that it practically calls out "Look at me."

I got one through cubits last year, actually year before; it came back last year along with hanasoi (I think that was it) but was pretty puny. I replanted and am hoping it will grow this year. Still under an ice cap like many others. Praire Afire sent up pips

Pwinget - that particular area is under a crape myrtle tree so there is plenty of light before the tree leafs out, and it provide some shade from the summer sun as the season progresses.

For comparison, this is the front yard before I starting digging out the lawn in 2010. The incentive for that (besides the fact that I hate lawns) was that I ran out of room in the backyard, and I had 4-5 peonies to plant. I wanted especially to put the tree peonies where it will be visible and be appreciated.

Here is a shot of that area from today. To the left of the Koukamon is an ITOH which is 3 years old, never bloomed, but I see a bud on it Hurray!

fixpix: I think your peony made up for those years it hadn't bloomed. Beautiful shape to those flowers. And the church garden peonies are sensational. I wonder how old they are.

soilsandup: There were so few pics of Morning Lilac when I bought it. However, the vendor had an older one photographed and it was gorgeous. One pic had won me over.

The red part beneath the leaves is a child deck chair. The tree flopped over today! I'll have to stake it. This one is my Shima.

This is my High Noon:

Thumb of 2014-04-15/Pwinget/2ee06a

My tree peonies have finally filled out. I was worried in the beginning. Some I had bought were of a decent size, and this year weren't growing as well. Now I see, I just had to give them time. High Noon is at least as big as last year, so I'm relieved. The buds on all of them have been huge since they first started to develop - they are teasing me!

Beautiful tree peonies Calin, you must be so happy to see them bloom finally. The tree peonies at the church are also gorgeous!

Pwin, your tree peonies are coming along nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing your blooms.

Calin - so glad your tree peony bloomed successfully for you this year.

Pwinget - I am also looking forward to seeing your tree peony in bloom.
