Yes, for inflammation, hot and warm is to be avoided. I like a good Epsom Salts soak on occasion. Thumbs up

Until recently, I had always heard: cold for immediate injury, hot to soothe the aches afterward.

BUT THIS IS A SPRING VEGETABLE GARDENS THREAD!
I have a tendency to ramble. Never to *intentionally* hijack though.

My gardening is rained out today and tomorrow.
GOOD NEWS: I now have a way now to use a rented pickup truck occasionally (Zipcar) so I can go get my bales to finish my veg garden! Might be May before I can $$ but now at least I know I will!

Meanwhile, there's plenty to do!

Who knew? I was heating up one of those bean things and putting it on my neck when it aches. No wonder it didn't get better. But it sure felt good. Husband kept saying cold and I would just glare at him. Living in Alaska is to be in continuous pursuit of warmth. Rolling on the floor laughing

Chelle, my lettuce has been planted out and we were in the mid 20's and it's fine. Just don't try to pick it and eat when it's frozen crisp! Rolling on the floor laughing

Thanks, Arlene!

I just have Lollo Bionda going so far, but it looks so good! Big Grin I can't wait till it gets big enough to sample.

I'd like to get another patch seeded soon...some of that Green Ice that I believe you said you favored.

Yes, I love Green Ice. I am trying some new varieties this year too and two Star looks very promising so far. I didn't peek under the row cover but i can see the lettuce pushing it up. When I get home I'll take off all the row covers for an inspection. Lettuce is a great seller for us at market. i just mix up all the varieties.

Trotted on out to the Springhouse and sowed half a tray each of Gentilina and Green Ice while the washer was cycling. Whistling It's too cold, windy and wet to have sown it otherwise.

I'm thinking about trying flowering sweet peas again this year. Since the lettuce is sprouting is now a good time to plant them, or should I wait a week or so yet?

Hey, here's a pea question....

I'm one of those women who detests pink from having it forced upon her as a child.
Does anyone know a tasty edible pea that flowers in ANOTHER color???

Arlene,

For this spring I have some Sugar-n-Spice seeds left over from a previous attempt. When would you sow the perennial type...in autumn?

After a day of gardening it is nice to soak in the tub. Well, not in the heat of summer but it is nice now in the more chilly weather of spring. I just put Epsom Salts in the water.

Not sure I understand Chelle. Most English peas (Pisum sativum) have WHITE blossoms. There are a few with colored blossoms but they are rare. Some snowpeas have colored blossoms. Sweet peas ( Lathyrus odoratus, annual and Lathyrus latifolius, perennial) are not edible and in fact are somewhat toxic. The annuals are available in whites and blues as well as pinks.

Farmerdill,

My question was one of timing; should I plant the peas if my lettuce is sprouting? I'm usually either too late and they fry in the heat before they bloom, or so early that they don't germinate.
