I prefer brown eggs cut if you really pressed me I could not give you a logical reason. After they are cooked I can't tell a difference. Do you think my preference is just cosmetic? Do you have a good convincing reason why one or the other is better? Confused Confused Confused

Brown eggs feel more homey to me. Out of the shell, no difference. Of my 10 layers, all but one lay some shade of brown, and I find that I now treasure the lone white egg. Go figure.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

The darker the brown, the better, but for no reason other then I just like how they look.

as far as nutrition goes, it's what you feed the hen rather than the color of the egg.

38 years ago, the first Amish families moved into our area from the Middlefield OH region. They were quite used to Yankees asking strange things. The lady that lived next door to Stan's family was telling us stories about the strange things that Yankees ask (and being a Yankee, I paid attention so as to not be such an a$$). Clara said that the strangest thing anyone ever said to her was when a large woman in bright, inappropriate clothing came rushing off a bus and said in a very loud voice, "I want some of those brown Amish eggs! I must have some of the Amish eggs!" Clara pulled herself up to her full height (about 4'11") and said, "Madame, Amish do not lay eggs!"

My mother was a nurse. One day she was feeding a lady with bandaged eyes her breakfast. "I hope that is a white egg; I can't eat brown ones," said the patient. The egg was brown. "Mrs Eliot, you know I would never give you anything that would harm you", my mother replied.

We have some olive egg layers and I love the shades of green they produce. My wife has been selling mixed dozens of brown and green, and sometimes shades of blue, and the people buying them love all the colors.

I have no olive egg layers, but I have found the multi-colored egg assortments to be the most popular too.

I'm convinced the blue/green ones taste better, wish I could find a source for them here. Hilarious!

It may be because the hens that lay them tend to be extra good foragers - more healthy bugs and veggies! Mine also put a stronger shell on their eggs than any of the others. Aesthetics may also play a role in the taste, which is why I think my cats would rather eat a cardinal than a starling.
