I'm betting I've got more if I really look for them but upon feeling around a bit, I found several early eyes from 'Liberty'. Smiling

Well, I was out "feeling around a bit" today, and I was pleased to find three more new pips showing:
Two of these were in the bed that has been so slow for them to show, so it is looking much more promising now.

I was out moving plants around today, and was surprised how fast they are growing. I'll get some pictures tomorrow.

New Hosta up this morning, I had completely forgotten I had it, and naturally I have planted another one way too close. The label had been bent over and buried under the leaves.

My 'Patriot' is returning also:

Now I still have a few of the same varieties that have not returned yet, but the only thing that I only had one of that has not returned so far is 'Sum and Substance', still hoping it will pop up any day.

I have three or four....this coming fall will be three years. I had two small ones then I got two Mature Divisions from Hosta Direct. I just can't figure out how why they are all the same size now!! LOL. But they are a good hosta for the south, they do not mind the heat and they do not pout if you forget to water them. They tolerate a bit of sun also. Thumbs up

Last year I bought and planted 'Sum and Substance' and 'Winter Snow' because I wanted a few larger hostas. So I am very disappointed that my 'Sum and Substance' has not shown any signs of returning so far. Maybe after the storms pass in the next couple of days it will finally decide to show. Seems like there is something about a thunderstorm that helps hostas spring up really fast. I just figured that a large hosta would need to get an early start in order to actually be a large hosta! For only being three years old those look like they have done very well. I think if the weather allows tomorrow I will take some pics of the growth on some of mine, some have really grown, others have barely grown at all.

Some hostas need a really good cold spell. The ones that come up first are the winners they do not require as much. I have not seen my Sun and Substance either. If it does not get enough cold it will not come up or it will come up weak and fall over like my Dragon's Eye. Sad

If you find it put it into the refrigerator for a couple of months and then just put it into a pot so it can get more cold air to the roots next winter, if that does not work you should boot it somewhere. LOL.

I found this nice little article on 'Sum and Substance', picked up a new term for me "flushing leaves"... probably everyone knew that term but me.

virginiarose,
Thanks, that is a good list to start form for my area with "normally" warm winters. I need to pay close attention it seems to which hostas are the first to emerge. I was glad to read about the 75 day span for hostas to emerge, I was wondering about that. Thank You!

Seedfork, I do not have the article about the 75 days. Where did you see that?

It is the paragraph just above the start of the list. I corrected "daylilies" for hostas in my last post, jumping back and forth in forums had me a little befuddled.
