Hello and thank you for this service and I hope your familiar with the area I am trying to cultivate a natural garden in Puerto Lopez, Ecuador. My land is on a gentle slope overlooking the bay and is know as the hill of winds. We have just one month of the rainy season left and the summer season is dry normally and it has barely rained in more than 80 days during this ""rainy""season and I have planted palm trees and need to know the period of time needed to properly water these . Thank you!

Hi Greg, and welcome. We could use a little more info about the palms you planted:

What kind of palms are they? How big and how many did you plant? Pictures would be helpful if you can post some!

Are they on a slope or on the level ground?

What is the soil like where you planted them?

Is it sunny in the summer, or do you have clouds in the afternoons like we do here in Florida? How hot does it get? If your 'hill of the winds' is really windy that will dry out your palms even more.

Even so-called 'drought-tolerant' palms will need some watering through the spring and summer, say at least once a week, and possibly more if it is very sunny and the soil is light.
