Hurray! Another one of the seeds Margaret shared with me is blooming today. This is Happy Returns X Noid. It is a very bright cheery yellow with blooms of 3 1/2 inches. Thumbs up

*yay!!* Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Love seeing the pretties!! My daylilies are SOOOO far from thinking about putting out any flowers.. they're barely about 5-6" tall. But it's still beyond super early for me. Most of the time, my DLs show up about mid/late June to early July. But I can look here & drool!!

lyle627 said:I hope to have a better year in 2012. I have crossed some of my own and have already seen some nice progress.

This seedling will be in it's final evaluation year.....

I moved to Mesa 6 years ago from the North East. I dearly miss my gardens. I had amazing perennial gardens with daylilys everywhere!! I was surprised to find that they can be grown here, then I found this forum and I can't wait to get started!!

Any tips on planting??

I grow lots of daylilies here thanks to seeds sent to me from a friend I meant on DG , Margaret who is also on this gardening site. I grow all mine in pots in filtered shade. They do great! Thumbs up I forgot all about this thread! Whistling

That's good to know, Linda. How long do they take to bloom when grown from seed?

I agree. That was the first time I had grown daylillies other then Stella so I was not in a hurry. Now I just order them. I mail order from Oakes. Very nice plants, no complaints. Thumbs up

I agree They are really lovely and I've never seen any in the Phoenix area. I had no idea they could grow well there. Your pics and the comments here have convinced me to give some a try there. I can't have any bulb plants here because we have moles, voles and javelina eat them as soon as they get planted. Sad

Thanks, Linda, that's good to know. I may buy a plant cage and start some. In AZ we battle rabbits who think I'm providing a salad bar.

Happily no rabbits can get thru our 6 ft. wooden fence but we live in a neighborhood, unfortunately, where houses are very close together and rabbits would not be safe intruding. Also lots of Owls and Hawks and stray cats. Hilarious!
