This is our native stingless bee. They make hives with honey. They are tiny. It is at a bloom of Hemerocallis 'Spacecoast Ruffles' this morning.

I have always been meaning to get a hive.

wowza

That is a tiny bee! Looks to be packin' double saddle bags of pollen and I really like the idea of stingless honey!
Do you also have killer bees and wasps?
How do these little defenseless bees fend off all the predators?

Nice SR, too Smiling

They are very cute. Thank you. I hadn't seen the pollen saddle bags. Lol. Dirt I have decided today I will get one of their hives and learn about them. I am quite ignorant of them and I will tell you want I learn. I see them more than the normal bees which are woefully scarce. The helicopters come through not far away from me spraying the mangroves for mossies and midges.

Of Interest.

Bumblebees of North America: an identification guide.
Williams, Paul, et al.
Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2014.
Octavo, paperback, 208 pp., colour photographs, line drawings, maps.
AU$40.00
The first comprehensive guide to North American bumble bees to be published in more than a century. Richly illustrated with colour photographs, diagrams, range maps, and graphs of seasonal activity patterns, this guide allows both the amateur naturalist and professional to identify all 46 bumble bee species found north of Mexico and to understand their ecology and changing geographic distributions. The book draws on the latest molecular research, shows the enormous colour variation within species, and guides readers through the many confusing convergences between species. It draws on a large repository of data from museum collections and presents state-of-the-art results on evolutionary relationships, distributions, and ecological roles. Illustrated keys allow identification of colour morphs and social castes. A landmark publication, this book sets the standard for guides and the study of these important insects.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

My crab apple trees are blooming and were really buzzing today with all kinds of bees except honey bees, didn't see one when I was around the tree, mind you I was too busy to spend more then a minuter or two looking. Sad
