No snow here but last weekend we finally got frost. My deck containers now have arugula and Swiss chard, these overwinter here. Cut back perennials but the drought has been so bad I'm afraid I may lose some. Anybody ever have luck keeping tropical sage alive indoors? I cut mine back and dug up a few, potted them and have them in the house. We'll see. Garden cleanup after the frost remains to be done, not my favorite chore.

Ugh! We added two barrels of kitchen "waste" to the compost, rescued the bagged dahlias from the shed, and did lots of indoor work as well as the usual cooking for the big day.

I awoke at 4:00 AM and saw deer inside my bird feeder coral. They broke thru the netting. I will be reinforcing that part of the surround.

They ate through bird mesh once but not through deer mesh...yet. Here's a fuzzy photo (sorry) to show the deer ripped through the mesh to get to the caladiums.

I reinforced wit all the trellises I could find.
I seriously over estimated the deer size, these were probably yearlings.
They cleaned out the feeder and all the seed that was on the ground.
It's still dark but I will check to see if they got thru last night or early this AM.

Daylight check finds the feeder still half full.

Cut back Japanese irises around birdbath as I thought of the beauty they give for six weeks in very early summer. Still have hundreds more to go.

I walked inside quickly. It has rained off and on since last night. Most snow is gone. At 11:11 pm a thunderstorm with hail went through. It was a noisy morning.

It's cold but I cut back two clematis vines. Did a fair job but there is one more to trim.
Cold and breezy means, eyes water, nose runs, muscles cramp , so I quit.

I haven't been doing much outside. Got Christmas decorations outside done and timers set up. I put some of my yard décor in storage for the winter. I got some of my bulbs stored in peat moss and vermiculite but have more to do before the truck can go into the garage before the snow gets here. I have some more Gladiolus to get put into storage. My Dahlia bulbs are getting dried up so am soaking them in water and then putting them in peat moss in cardboard boxes and will keep them misted. Hope they survive over the winter. This weekend I hope to get the Christmas tree in the living room up and the other inside decorations put around.
Yard decor, repurposing, and flowers,

Catching up here. Spent 2-1/2 hours outside helping DH with leaves. It was 39 degrees outside and that is not my favorite temperature for working, however, I'm afraid we aren't going to get any more warm weather. Thumbs down Rain the last week and a half so we had to wait for the leaves to dry out. DH sucks the leaves up and puts them in a large barrel and I schlep the barrel down to our leaf pile. I pick up sticks and haul them down to another pile to be chipped.

Finally finished cutting back Japanese irises and mulching the paths in one garden. It was 43F, breezy, overcast, and wearing two winter jackets (and insulated gloves) helped but the 3.5 hours it took seemed much longer. The other JI gardens will have to wait for weather that's better than today.

Went out to dinner wearing my mink. It's not a night for those who hate cold and wind.
