I am very close to an A&P and I do visit Avocado occasionally too. I might run over to A&P tomorrow.

This isn't a question but I thought I would let you know that when I was researching a trivia question last week I ended up at a site for David Austin roses and requested their catalog. It came today! I'm saving it for my Saturday morning coffee on the patio. Then I'll have a few questions. :o)

Looks like a wonderful place to visit. Your patio's are beautiful. Do you regret not going with a hard top, instead of the trellis top? I love sitting outside when it rains. But we used the green fiberglass for my patio top, so that light could shine through. It doesn't do a very good job of keeping the rain out though. Leaks like a sieve!!! One of my projects is to make the patio longer and wider, and put a better cover on it. But I still want a roof where it lets abundant light though, but keeps the rain out. Maybe lots of skylights!

Yea, in a way I want a solid roof over the trellis. Mostly for sunlight filtering. I'm thinking of Sunbrella fabric in a drape from beam to beam. I would sew rings to the fabric that would hook on hooks on the underside of the beams. Wouldn't keep rain out but I have more sunny days than rainy days. Go figure! Looking at fabric tomorrow!
( I know some great guys who do great work should you want a recommendation, Alan. They've done three projects for me and I'm thrilled with their work). They do live about 20 minutes north of me, however, far from Chandler.)

It's almost mid-October; what to do now? I pruned my roses back - probably a little more than I should have, but who knew we'd have record-breaking temps that late. Should I carefully take off the burnt parts? Fertilize? The Angel face is gamely putting out a few blooms - about the size of a silver dollar. Sad

Yes, you can just clip off the burnt parts. I would clip down as far as the next available leaf terminal/bud eye.

Fertilize? Alan, now that it's nice enough to go outside, I'd like some pretty roses to see and sniff!

I user miracle grow every two weeks. I use the spray end dispenser, and count 12 seconds on each rose with the Miracle grow spraying on the rose leaves of each plant. Still a bit warm, you will want to do that in the late afternoon, or very early morning, or the miracle grow can burn the foliage with the sun shining on the wet leaves. This really works well for me with so many roses. You don't have so many, so depending you may just want to measure out the miracle grow in a bucket of water and water your roses that way. Either way will work fine.

If you don't want to have to fertilize so often; get the time released oscomote fertilizer for veggies, 15-15-15. Work it into the soil around each of your roses and they will be fertilized every time you water for three months.
