As growitall (Lori) suggested earlier, how about a variety of Silene (Synonym Lychnis) which is commonly called "Catchfly"?

Looks more and more like Lychnis/Silene... maybe even Silene x robotii 'Rolly's Favorite', as you've shown, Lin. It would be a good guess, as it came out a few years ago and is probably pretty common in the stores.

Edit... Nah, I take it back. The dark leaves are still saying Lychnis x arkwrightii*cv. such as 'Vesuvius' or Lychnis x haageana**.

this is a photo of a new plant I purchased last week . Just sold as red catchfly .The lady started it from seed but other than perennial she had no other info.

Funny thing is that I do not remember buying it! But I buy so much stuff I can't remember it all.

I found an Iris that I never purchased! LOL. Must have been a bonus from someone, I know it did not jump into the dirt by itself.

I think maybe I got it at one of those flower/plant tent stands that we have here in parking lots during the summer. Often the tags get switched around or are just plain missing. But at $4 or $5 for a one gallon pot I'm usually game to take a chance.

I'm anxious for it to bloom too, Jennifer. My curiosity is really piqued about this one.

It IS Lychnis!!! Now I remember picking one up. I just don't know if it is Lychnis arkwrightii or haageana. And I still don't remember where I got it I think maybe it is going to be orange. Because I have a tall version in red so I would not have bought another red. Funny, just the other day as I was looking at my Lychnis Chalcedonica I thought to myself, "I thought I bought a short one in orange last year, hmmm"

Yes, you can continue to post/upload after you indicate "solved". You can also change back to unsolved if you change your mind. You will see this option at the top of your thread after you indicate "solved".

I believe you can still post in the thread. I think marking it solved is just a way of letting everyone know. If you find it is not what you think it is, then you can also reopen the thread.
