Alan, we'll have to chalk this one up to mysteries unsolved. And sometimes that's nice! It was really sweet of them to answer though.

Thanks Alan!

Even though we didn't get the answer we where seeking we still got some interesting information!

And I learned a few things trying to find the answer too!

Nobody's going to answer Susie's question?? OK, then; I'll give it shot. Is it a carpet, aka groundcover, rose?

I've been sending out emails to rosarians, trying to get them to come over, but they do not seem to interested....or, maybe they are just busy. It's HOT here, kind of like winter everywhere else. So I'm guessing most folks in other parts of the country are out enjoying there gardens, while now, it's our turn. We are hibernating Smiling I do love to get out early in the morning though :)))

Susie, Alan, Judy, anybody.... Have you ever planted a carpet rose? I've been so tempted so many times, but I have no experience with this type rose whatsoever.

Miniature Roses.
With over 60 years of cultivating these mini's who is considered the expert on the roses and what is this person's hometown? (I ask the second part to this questions because I've been there many times and had no clue as to the fame!)

I know, I know... I think! Anyhow, I'm not going to answer till somebody else limbers up their pinkies and goes searching. Very interesting question, Susie, and some great reading on a subject I'd never given any thought to.

Sidebar: Has anyone ever bought the mini roses at the supermarket - and kept them alive?

Yes, I have brought some of the supermarket mini's and planted them. Especially if I like the way the look. I have a red on on the east side of the house that is about 7 years old, and does very well outdoors.

Alan, how big did the mini rose get to be? They're so small when you get them. I'd love to keep some in pots in the house. Have you tried that?

This one stays at about 2 feet mounded. Some stay smaller than that, some get way huger. Remember my mini-rose Red Wand is about 8 feet tall, and has been as tall as 12 feet before I cut it back. I suspect most the grocery store ones would stay around 1 - 2 feet tall. But have not bought enough of them to confirm that. Here is a picture of my mini rose - red wand.

That is incredible! I thought the "mini" in miniature roses applied to the plant itself, not just the bloom. Goes to show what happens when you don't read up on subjects. Rolling my eyes.

Now, back to Susie's question: Anybody? Where did everyone go? This was very interesting.

I don't think anyone has answered the question, actually. Name of the person and the city they live in.

I think the best thing about this thread or any Q&A thread is learning about new stuff.

I agree. I've read some very interesting stuff - historical, scientific, factual - and come across some beautiful roses I knew nothing about.

Anyhoo, is this the guy you're asking about? Ralph Moore of Visalia? http://www.rdrop.com/~paul/ral...

And, if you notice, the quote yesterday and today on Alan's signature is a quote from Ralph Moore!.
