I joined this group last September but did not introduce myself so I thought it appropriate to finally do so. I am a daylily addict in Houston, TX and have been for some 30 years. I have read numerous posts and enjoyed all the comments and pictures of your favorite daylilies. I am recently retired and now have more time to devote to my favorite subject.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone who has the same addiction!

Profesora, nice to meet you. I only have a limited amount of garden space since I have a pool in the backyard. My 100+ dayliles and some hibiscus are planted behind the garage. My daylily friend really likes amaryllis and I am thinking about planting some bulbs this fall.

I can always seem to find room for just one more!

Seedfork, nice to meet you also.

Thanks Tink. I'm not sure if you remember me, but you helped me get Ruby Lipstick. BTW, it didn't come back this spring, and we had a really cold winter which is very unusual for Houston. I normally don't buy dormants, but I really wanted Ruby Lipstick. I do have several dormants which come back every year, and I don't understand why some do and some don't. One of the best plants I have is Red Volunteer which is a dormant. I guess it's just trial and error!

Hello Nancy. Welcome. Welcome! Welcome! Oh, none of us are addicts and we can give up any time we don't want to.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Oh yes I remember you now Smiling I am surprised RUBY LIPSTICK did not come back for you especially since it got really cold there, it does really well here as most dormants do. Sorry you lost it

tedsox09,
Red Volunteer is on my list mainly because of its rust resistance. It stood out at the local botanical gardens among all the rest because it had nice rust free green foliage.

Gleni - thanks! It's going to be nice chatting with so many who have the same passion for daylilies.

Tink - I was really surprised also since it was so cold this past winter. After I remodeled my pool last year, I was able to enlarge my daylily flower bed. I planted 50+ new ones last fall and I was like a kid in a candy store! Of those, I had six dormants and the only one that did not come back was Ruby Lipstick. Isn't that the way it always goes?

Seedfork - I have always been amazed at Red Volunteer. It's an oldie but a goodie, like many of us! It's one of those perfect daylilies that will always be with me. It blooms really well, increases every year and as you state, always has lush green foliage. What more can we ask for!

It was 80 degrees here in Houston today and you couldn't ask for a more gorgeous day. I stayed outside almost all day and a lot of it talking to my daylilies. I'm sure that I'm the only one that does that. Rolling my eyes.

I finally have 3 or 4 scapes coming up, and I can't wait for that first bloom which is always so exciting.

Thanks everyone for making my first day in the group so enjoyable!

Welcome! Nancy! I hope you have taken lots of pictures of your daylilies for us to drool over Smiling

I have Red Volunteer too and even though at first I was not too excited over it because it was 'just a plain red', it is now one of those that I always look forward to seeing in bloom.
