Okay, yesterday evening I dug a bunch of rhizomes/plants (they have some growth on them) up from a friends house. He could not remember what colors they are. I don't know if I am going to plant them all. What should I do with the rhizomes to keep from loosing them? Can I store them or what is the best thing to do? I have some Iris in my yard that need dug up and split. Guess I will be doing that today . I was already planning on moving some of mine to another location in the yard. I will certainly be adding some of these. I don't want them to die. May sell/give some away. Any suggestions?

I think the BEST thing you could do is to plant them now. If you have to store them a while, I'd cut the fans back to about 4" long, put them in a cool, dry place, just let them go back to "dormancy". This is going to rob them of lots of "vigor" (since they have already expended some energy starting new growth), but , even though it will set them back, they should survive it. I would still plant them as soon as you can....Arlyn

Thanks! That's what I figured. Guess I better get to planting...

After all, most irises are divided 6 wks after bloom, so plant new ones & don't dig your own until then.
