My mother grew this daylily is her garden for many years, but now she's gone and I can't ask her exactly what it is. Anybody have any ideas?

Update:
First bloom of 2014:

I'd have guessed Red Thrill but your petals and sepals seem to have wavier edges to them.
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Red Thrill')

Let's hope someone else has a good guess.

Post again on the first day it blooms (FFO - First Flower Open) and maybe that will narrow down the choices.

This is my guess. But with so many choices, who knows. Do you know how long your mother had it, or where/when she acquired it?
Is it tall? does it rebloom? is it fragrant? diamond dusted? ect.

That is a hard choice, the intro date, the height, the bloom time all pretty close, they are both large blooms but 'Red Ribbons' looks to be extra large.

I'm not sure about the traits but I know my mom had it for a long time (at least ten years, and she died in 2010). I took a clump with me but I'm sure yet if it survived the hard winter.

the pics of Autumn Red do not seem to have the edges curled as much as the OP photo. Anna do you have other photos of this flower? do the flowers usually look pretty true to the photo you have?

Nope, not Autumn Red, as Frillylily said, Anna's bloom has the wavy petal edges, a more graceful look to it and looks to have larger and wider petals, (unlike the narrow petaled Red Thrill and Red Ribbons) plus the yellow throat is much larger too.

Daylily flowers have a tendency to slight variations, the photo on the first site I linked to (the Russian one) looks spot on, and to my eye the others look as close as one might expect with variations but of course there are incorrectly named plants. Put them side by side to see the likeness.

Dave, sorry about that, I had done a lot of google image searching using colour as a guide, I found one on a 7 year old thread on GW Whistling which was unknown but suggested it could be Autumn Red. The rest comes with what I find on google images, I don't deliberately go to any site but go to what google presents but I get your point. Smiling

All you need to do to translate it either use a right click after highlighting text, translate with Bing if you have it. In this case it didn't work, so I copy the browser address and search in google, then use the 'translate this page' link.

Since daylilies do have the tendency to have variations, it is a good idea to submit a handful of photos and all the stats you know, when trying to get an ID for one. Photos from different years or first flower open or photos of the branching or edges, eyes ect.

Unfortunately that's the only one I have. If the bit I took survived the winter I'll post another this summer.

It survived the winter! Hurray! The first bloom was today, and I took pictures! Also, the flowers are scented.

I believe that could be Scarlett's Web. The picture I have attached is one I took the other day at work. I know that you all mentioned that yours was a little ruffled and when I looked at it that is what did it for me. Scarlett's Web is a Diploid. I hope this helps and we are very close in zones.
