Are tomatillos self pollinating, like tomatoes are?

Not that I know of. They are self-incompatible and at least two or more plants are needed for pollination.
I garden for the pollinators.

Are you sowing quite a few seeds?

No, I only have two plants because last year, three was more than enough. They were slow to start setting, though, and the ants were all over them. Do you have those problems?

They grow wild around here so they may sometimes have ants. They don't seem to be too noticeable. It may have something to do with hot, dry weather.
I garden for the pollinators.
