Following a discussion with the plant admins, I have made a change to how new incoming images are handled in the database.

If you are a member who has previously posted 10 or more images to the database (that's most of us!), your images will now bypass moderation and will be automatically approved and added to the plant you're posting to.

For new members who haven't posted 10 photos yet, those photos will go into the moderation queue for a moderator to approve. Once you get 10 approved photos, then you will no longer require moderation.

Finally, we have a system in place where we can add members to a "must need moderation" group. Moderators: if you have a member who you feel requires moderation, please tree-mail me their name and I will add them to that list. Members added to that group will have their images go into the moderation queue. I don't expect we'll have many members that need moderation.

Thanks Dave.....I guess I need to pay more attention to what is going on. Nice improvement. It should prevent 100+ building up in the queue and should allow pictures to get on the screen even for a limited amount of time depending on how many are posting.

And I think we have a whole membership rather 'moderating' photos and other database information as well. I really appreciate the courtesy shown in discussions about questionable entries.

Are you sure today's photos weren't added to entries for which you already received acorns? You only earn an acorn for the first image you submit to each gallery. I checked a few of your images from today and all of them seemed to be for entries with earlier images by you.

The only thing that I am not getting like before is notification that a photo has been a approved........no need because I can see that it is already on the screen. That gives me a little feeling of 'power' as I don't need to wait for approval. Sue explained the acorn situation.....

Okay, I just tested the system by adding 4 images -- 2 to entries where I had already posted and 2 to entries where I had never contributed images before. I received no system messages.

I'm not sure about the acorns because I didn't think to look at the number before I added the two for which I should have received acorns. I guess I'll have to do another test. Hilarious!

Are you just not getting the red alert? If I click on the alert button and view past messages, all my recent one are there.

Nope. I just clicked the button and my latest personal messages have to do with corrections of misspelled Fuchsia names in the database, and those were done before I added the images.

The red alert button isn't broken, by the way. I just now got a message about a thumbs-up for one of those images, and the button lit up red to let me know.

OK, I just tried it again. When I hit the submit button, no red alert, I don't get it until I click on another page. It's probably done that all along, I just never paid attention to the exact sequence. I also got the red alert and message for a name addition. So sounds like there may be a minor glitch.

You all have it correct: with photos being auto approved there is no need for a system message, so it doesn't send one. It does, however, still award the acorns, albeit silently. You can confirm this by going through the route @zuzu did above. Look at your acorn count, then post a photo, then check again. You should have an extra acorn in your count.

I can enable the system message for auto posted images, if you all think I should. It just seemed to me like it wasn't necessary since the point of system messages is to let you know about things that other people have done that affect you.

Zuzu & Sue, I did post some pics to the db that warranted acorns.

Dave, I always liked the system messages for the confirmation of acorns.

I updated the system today. Starting now, you will get a system message with each photo you upload. It will tell you the ID of the photo you uploaded, along with whether an acorn was awarded or not.

I also added the thumbnail of your actual image to the system message notification, so can see without clicking which photo was added. Smiling
