Random thought here; I don't know if it's feasible or not, but since it's possible to "watch" a thread, would it also be possible to "watch" a plant in the DB? Many of the entries I'm interested in following are currently populated with seedling images only, and it would be great to be able to receive notifications as additions are made.

I know that we can star or thumbsup a plant, or add it to our want list in order to keep some kind of line on it, but interests and lists can get overwhelmingly large and unwieldy at times *Blush* and the followup postings of bloom images could take a number of years for some species.

[Once I wrote this out I noticed that @fiwit had already suggested this here The thread "Plant Database Navigation Suggestion" in Site Talk forum , but I still felt that I should resubmit the idea under its own title, and with its own thread.]

Your idea is technically different than what I had posted last year (and which was resolved when @Dave gave us the ability to customize the blue side-bar)... You're asking about watching a particular PLANT, and I think that's a dang good idea. nodding I can't imagine it would be any more difficult than "watching" a forum or a thread, but I'm not a programmer, so I reserve the right to be wrong. Hilarious!

This is an idea that I've wanted to do for a very long time and I have even experimented a little with the concept. The main issue is that the forums were designed for the "watching" feature, whereas the database was not at all. So to make such a thing work will require some actual re-working of how the database is programmed. Because of that, it's a pretty indepth project that I just haven't taken the time to tackle yet. And at the moment I have other ideas I want to work on before getting into something like that. I do want to do it eventually, though!
