I just uploaded a batch of code that changes the way the Lists feature works in an important way:

Starting now, your public view is the same as your control panel.

This means that if someone else is viewing your list, it is the same as always. But when you're viewing your own list, you'll have the blue "add a plant" button, along with all the edit and delete action for each plant.

As part of this change, while managing your plant list, you now have access to all the same snazzy functionality that has always been in the public view. You can restrict your view to certain genera, or view just your "Haves" or "Wants", etc.

Give it a shot and please let me know if there's any usability issues that have cropped up that I missed.

Possible glitch? When I click on someone else's list I see all the plants in their list, but when I click on Marilyn's it only shows the first plant. Click on page two and it shows Calibrachoa. It is only showing one genus per page, even though I selected show all.

Aww, found her, user name @Marilyn. Green Grin! Looks like she may have set some of hers to private. That's my guess.

Sue's right, it's the privacy settings not being taken into account when totaling the figures. I'll fix it.

All her plants (or at least a lot) are visible, they just show one genus per page rather than all in one list.

Any plants that are not in a category at all, are not private since the privacy is only accomplished by putting a plant inside a private category.

I just uploaded another couple hours of programming work on the Lists feature. I have gone through and altered the way the privacy settings are handled internally, and audited every line of the code to ensure it's working properly and securely.

As far as I can see, it is now 100% reliable and solid as pertains to privacy settings.

If you have a category that you mark as private, nobody will ever see it. If you put a plant in that category, then nobody will ever see the plant in your list (even if it's also in a second category that is not private.) The plant will also not be counted in the totals on your profile.

If you want to see what your own list looks like to other people, you can log out of ATP and then check your profile and list. Then log back in and you'll once again see your hidden stuff.

I'd be grateful if you all could look around a little and check my work. Let me know if you see any bugs.

I can't point out if there are any bugs or not. I did not have any lists before. But this thread inspired me to get started!

I don't know if it worked before the changes, but I tried to print out my list of nine ferns, but it never printed. I did get a little box down in the left hand lower corner saying something about print friendly, but that was it.

Clicking on "Print this page" actually just gives you a printer-friendly version of the page. You still have to then click on "File->Print" or whatever functionality your browser has for telling it to print.

Thanks, I used IE for so long, didn't see "File-Print", using chrome now and haven't gotten used to it yet.

Siberian Squill (Scilla siberica 'Spring Beauty')

I need to get a new cat. set up. Thumbs up

Thanks Dave for everything that you do! Hurray! I tip my hat to you. Thank You! Thumbs up

Oops! I can't add a new cat. because I don't remember how to on my private list. *Blush* It's not as easy to manage my list privately than when it was public on ATP. *Blush*

Seems to be a long time, since I added a new cat. Help please, I'm all ears!

When you are looking at you list, on the left side in the blue section is a Manage Categories, that's' where you can add a new one.
