I've yet to find them in habitat here and wonder if they really do best in Partial Shade to Full Shade in more northern areas @KentPfeiffer?

I only find them in dappled shade under oaks, but can easily imagine them growing in more open habitats where the climate is a bit more benign.

At least in Minnesota, Bloodroot is quite adaptable to the dappled shade of almost any deciduous tree. They a common in Minnesota woods and I don't see any preference for companion tree species, as long as its needs are met.
