ATP Podcast #54: Weeds? Weeds!

By dave
April 29, 2014

In today's podcast we talk about weeds. What to do about weeds? Is there such a thing as a good weed? What weeds can be tolerated, and even used to your benefit? And for the rest, how do you get rid of them? We cover all that, plus the usual segments, along with a bonus pinboard of bad ideas, in today's episode!

Dave & Trish - Just curious .... why isn't there video used for podcasts like you do for the not-a-raffle raffle (which I really enjoy)? Such as an actual short video of what you are discussing or a slide show of photos created into a video referencing the discussions or interviews on podcast? Perhaps used as an additional media to go along with the ATP podcasts? I enjoy any photos posted to go along with the podcast. I ask because I am a visual person. Reading or hearing someone talk about something doesn't always stick with me ... but give me a photo or video and I DO remember it!!! I love "seeing" various plants, ideas, and the people interviewing in those discussions!

I also thought the same thing about the "Ideas" posted weekly. Nowadays, most cameras have a video option on them in addition to taking photos. One of the sites I love to peruse is the YouTube video site. There are so many plant and gardening how-to videos on that site and I really enjoy most all of them! There are "free" photo and video editing programs online for folks to use to "clean-up" or create videos or slideshows. I would so love to see a video or slideshow of ZuZu and CaSue's rose gardens as well as some of Trish's garden areas.

I always wish I could "see" what is being discussed on the podcast .... just wondering.....

It's a matter of time.

We could record videos to go along with each podcast. We could take the video camera out to the garden and video the weeds and show what we do. It's just a matter of time. Doing the podcast takes about 2 or sometimes 3 hours of work already and we can't spend the time to do more than that.

We plan the podcast, sit down and record it, then I do the post processing and upload it to the site and add it to the system, sometimes adding show notes and links, and that's all the time I'm willing to spend on it.

There are other priorities to running a site like ATP and we have the prioritize how we spend our time.

Dave - I totally understand the time it takes! Totally!!! I was just wondering if there was some other reason why you weren't considering it. Thanks for explaining why you don't.

Could it be an option for someone you are interviewing? Could they have the option of submitting a video or slideshow for you to add to the podcast link or an Ideas link? Something that just needs to be uploaded in addition to the written article? You've really interview some fascinating people and I always wish I could see what they are referring to in their discussions. I know many may not have time to create a video or slideshow, but there may be some that are willing to create something for ATP listeners/readers. Just a thought.

I keep saying no. Sad

I have enough trouble getting guests to commit to an hour for a phone interview. They are always successful and busy people who are generous to sit with us for an hour. I won't ask them for any more of their time.
