The color is outstanding. Wonder why it's called that, though. You would think it would bloom in October. Or, I would think something called Octoberfest would be more beer-colored. Like an amber bock or something.
We had a perfectly nice and warm day to move some Orchids into the cage. While moving things about, I noticed some good stuff in bloom and also some scale which needed my prompt attention.
Now we had a couple of thunder showers marching through here.
Here is now the good stuff:
There is a good reason my white Cattleya skinneri is not considered the alba form, but it is described as albescens. Now a couple of weeks later, the old flowers have a nice hint of color.
Dendrobium trantuanii threw out a beautiful single bloom. This is probably it again for the season.
Bulbophyllum levanae hasn't flowered in ages, it seemed content just putting on good growth over the years. Not this Spring, it is actually blooming and I see a couple more buds.
Elaine, I like how the orchid hybridizers have actually created orchids that have blue shades. I know the Rose people are forever trying to create a blue rose and they always look purple to me. But the orchid people seem to have gotten it right. That being said, I like Lc. Tanya Duncan 'Seattle Blues' (which I killed once but bought again when it was cheap at our club's orchid auction). I guess you can argue it leans toward purple, too but I like it.
The Slc. Fire Magic 'Nora' has bloomed. Oddly enough, it bloomed (single flower) in January as well. She has a nice, though light fragrance but it took several days for any noticeable fragrance.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.
I'm hoping all of you mothers are having a wonderful day. Thank you for all you do and all you have done.
Ursula, your Den trantuanii is stunning. What a beautiful flower! It's nice to see a Bulbo flowering as mine are just sitting there.
Ken, lots of color going on with that Catt. I expect some fragrance as it ages.
Some old and new blooms from the OC. First is a better look at Cattleya maxima. The colors darken as she matures.
Lots of NOID Phals blooming over in the Phal corner,
Psychopsis mariposa 'Green Valley' opened yesterday.
Both of my Epc. Rene Marques 'Tyler' orchids began to open yesterday. They are in lock step.
Dendrobium Burana 'Green Star' is also beginning to open.
Some of you who have been posting with me for a long time may recall the story of a windy night where one of my red Dendrobiums was blown into the pool and spent the night on the bottom. I found it the next morning, rinsed and re-potted it, and it recovered but began to bloom white. It is now huge and still blooming white .
Epi Mabel Kanda 'Miyao' X Cordigerum 'Paradise' has two spikes full of flowers. I need to run the name through Orchidwiz to see if anything has changed.
That's it for now. Once again, happy mother's day.

Sorry, Jim. Seems like the orchid boffins are making a hobby of changing the names . . . and making money at it by selling OrchidWiz to the folks that want/need the right name on their plants. It bothers me that the growers aren't subscribing to OrchidWiz as they should be the ones keeping up with the name changes, but as you say, so many orchids you buy don't have correct tags!
Mabel is a lovely orchid that absolutely does need a shorter name! Hope it is registered soon.
I do remember you telling the bizarre story of the red orchid that turned white after a night in the pool, lucky you didn't have a name for that one, you'd need to change it!

I had a great day, first a visit from my son with the youngest grandchildren - ( they always make a mad dash upstairs to feed the fish ) and since we had glorious warm sunshine today, I was able to make a dent into the greenhouse population by moving more stuff into the cage. Heh, I can actually move around in the greenhouse now!
Ken, nice colors there on 'Nora'!
Jim, loving the show! that white Dendrobium is amazing indeed, I remember when you reported it floating in the pool.
The Butterfly is beautiful!! I love it! And the C. maxima looks better and better!
Nice Phals too!
Elaine and Melanie - talking about blue Orchids -
Cleisocentron merrillianum comes to mind with its cluster of cute little baby- blue blooms. The plant usually blooms in late Summer/sometimes early Fall for me, so here are older pictures. The whole thing is about a foot high.
Jim, I like that yellow Phal. It just looks so happy!
Ursula, I had my mind on cattleyas (as usual) but one of my favorite orchids (that happens to be blue) is Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Bluebird'. That's a fun little plant!
Well, I ran the name check and this is what I found. Epi. Mable Kanda is really Epy. Mabel Kanda as it is an Epidendrum crossed with an Encyclia. The Cordigerum is an Encyclia. What's more, the cross is registered. It is now called Epicyclia [Epy.] Serena O'Neill (Epy. Mabel Kanda x E. cordigera). And now we know the rest of the story. Without this kind of info, I'd get tossed out of a show on my ear.

Love seeing all of these beauties! Happy Mothers Day to All of you! And especially to the newest Grandma, @dyzzypyxxy amongst us!! Hope that you all had a wonderful day!

Thanks Tara. Here's the newest cross in my family (again) with her eyes open. She's registered, too! And an older cross, sitting in the tulips and gettin' good 'n dirty planting with her grandmother.
I have a 'late bloomer' on my Den Yellow Song 'Canary'. Such a treat! Enc. Copper Scarab 'Brass Brethren' has its funny little scented copper flowers coming on again, and the David Sander x digbyana has more flowers open, looking delicate and elegant. (but not fringed, sadly)
