Thanks to the Dollar Tree I found an easy way to let seedlings grow outside until they get their true leaves without having to worry and squirrels and birds digging them up. I took two baskets and put them on top of each other .. the bottom basket has holes drilled in it for water drainage and the top basket is twist tied to it when needed.
Works like a charm even for your babies in the ground.

I used to keep seedlings in the greenhouse until they were ready but the light was never quite right because of the panels and they'd start to get leggy. The second I saw the 'open' baskets, the ones I use on top I knew I had my solution.

I have recently resorted to using screen door material stretched over a wooden frame, so far it is working. Similar to a compost screen inverted, darn... I have a compost screen I could use that too,
what was I thinking?

The Dollar Tree has been an awesome place for 'gardening' tools! Lol.

I do this with the 1020 web trays in which annuals are often sold. They aren't as tall so they only work for short seedlings, but I like free! They are also handy for protecting places where you've direct-sown seeds in the garden by just pining them to the ground with landscape staples or bent pieces of wire hangers. I'll have to check if our Dollartree has some of the taller baskets, too.
One might also think about the watering-thereafter issue:
--- if you secure just one side of the inverted basket, you will be able to open and close it like a treasure chest.

You're welcome. Glad it's helpful.
