Prairie Phlox is in full bloom now.

I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

Awww...they're so sweet looking! Are they "on time" or late this year? So many of mine plants are late.

I think it usually starts blooming in April, so it's probably on time. I have plants that usually just put on leaves and bloom, but had to come back from the roots this year that will most likely be VERY late this year.
This one is also not late, Natchez Mock Orange.

Mine's blooming too, mock orange that is, but it's late too for here. The salvias are just starting to fillout and be covered with blooms. Brunfesia is blooming. Thought I'd lost it.

All that rain we received this winter has done wonders. This is a photo of a neighbors pasture...Sandy Land Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, Drummond Phlox and Toad Flax.

The common name for this is propeller flower. The scientific name is rather long, Herbertia lahue var caerulea. The interesting thing about this subspecies that on a sunny day the flower petals curl up and close up by 2:00 or 3:00. The species stays open all day.

It forms great big patches. I expected a great show this year because of all the rain, but so far, they have appeared in smalle rnumbers. The fence in the background in this photo is about 1/2 mile long and there were flowers all the way across the pasture.

When I go driving around with my camera, I don't get that much done, mostly just taking pictures of wildlfowers.

Love the field!

We're headed to the lake this morning. Taking my camera. Hope to get a few shots of wildflowers before they're covered by grasses

I'll have to take my camera with me on my next drive! When I get close to home, the county roads are full of colorful wildflowers ~ that song from the Wizard of Oz comes into my head every time! You know the one..... when they get close to the emerald city and the field of wildflowers! ♫That song...... LOL Whistling
