Mary

It is very pretty. Looks almost like Frosted Violet.

I was wondering about you and the snow. Has it stopped snowing? Thankfully, we did not get anything.

Yes, and the plows came through here already. The gals in parts of Va & Md haven't seen plows yet.

No, that's not Frosted Violet. I have several of those in another bed.

Hurray! I found my way here!

Stormy, I love that picture of your "purple or something or other" Smiling With all the snow outside it gets the juices flowing for spring!

I'm sad to report that one of the last fatalities I discovered in the gardens before the end of the year was the group of 'Citronelle' I've been so impressed with for two years Sad I think the Grumbling weevil got them! They started looking "funny" in September and when I checked them to see what was going on the whole head pulled away Sad

I'll be anxious to see if "they" move down the driveway and attack this group next!

Rcn, Do you think it was the Weevils or Voles? My Citronelles are hanging in there.

Most of my Harvest Lemon Chiffon dried up too. That 6 weeks of no rain from July to August was a killer on the Heuchs. Before and after that, they were drowning.

I think these are my Purple Palace.

I've really got to find some program that let's me store these photos with their names. The windows program probably even lets me do it. I just don't know how. Will have to study it.

I will be on the look out for them. When I started losing Heuchs this summer, I took 2 of them apart and couldn't find any sign of them.

I hope you don't get anymore.

RCN - what does one do to deter the weevils? I am thinking probably something like Sevin, but for myself, I do not like using that type of thing.

Gosh, Carolyn, We did a whole thread on that in the DG Heuch forum. Medinac had them really bad. RCN posted a few really good articles.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread or not but it's the only one I could find right now: http://davesgarden.com/communi... They're disgusting little buggers and are usually responsible for most of the problems whenever you hear of anyone complaining that they just can't grow Heucheras :(

Here's quick info for "control" http://www.entomology.umn.edu/... It's difficult because if you use a drench you have to time it right and make sure to repeat in two weeks. I'm just not that dedicated - heck I bought spray for deerproofing two years ago and I haven't even applied it yet Sad

The good news is that if you identify the problem quickly, you can usually pluck the plant from the soil, inspect the roots and soil for the weevil, remove them and replant the Heuchera. They usually reroot quickly - of course it sets the plant back and you're basically starting all over again but at least sometimes you can save them Smiling

RCN48 -

Excellent information. I did tag the folders so I would have the information easily available when I need it. I have not had these problems yet. But it is good to know ahead of time in the event something happens. I have been thinking about trying the nematodes anyway, because the Japanese beetles decimate some of my flowers each year. I understand the point about disturbing the balance, but it seems to me that the Japanese beetles have already done that.....

Carolyn, I put down a ton of nematodes this summer. I'm hoping they also ate some eggs from this year's crop of nasties.

Mary - did you see results very soon from the nematodes or will it take me a couple of seasons to see results? Those JP decimate my roses, clems and forget growing any hollyhocks.... I had been looking at nematodes because I can put them down without hurting my koi.

Mary,

How big is your yard and how many did you buy? Also, can you send me a link to a viable source to buy the nematodes? I have 1/3 of an acre....

Pretty photos, I got a bunch, but will have to round up the photos, wil work on that soon. Glad to have this forum. I love heucheras and tierellas and heucherellas.

BTW what's the diference between heucheras and heucherellas?
Like Plants or Flowers, we grow in the company of others.
