I've got these lovelies popping up. We've had to move where we keep our trash bins so that we don't crush them. When's the best time to dig them up and move them? I'm not sure where I'll put them, but.....

You can dig them up now if you wish, just keep as much of the root ball in tack. You can just plant them in pots till you figure out where you want to put them, also if they are in pots you can move them around till you find a place that they like.

Hurray!

Even up here in Ottawa, my hostas are FINALLY showing up. I have a few that have started to unfurl and this week I'll make my first round of the garden with a camera. But as of yesterday about 92% of the 205 hostas (some duplicated) on my check list have shown up. Smiling

Finally, finally, 'Sum and Substance' has sent up some little pips, I was really thinking it was not going to show.

How on earth did you find that? I think I found mine but not growing very fast for a big guy. Glare

Well, about two inches of sand had washed over it, so I took a small trowel and scraped off the sand. Sorry to say I broke off the main shoot, but now there are at least four more showing. So if you go digging around for a hosta be a little more careful than I was, I just felt sure there was not going to be a plant there, and was surprised when there actually was one.

Mine are really growing. The one on the right of the picture (the one that is cut off) is Sum and Substance. Not sure why mine are so big this early when yours aren't. You're in warmer climates than me...Weird!

We had some hail today so I have some holes in my hostas, but nothing serious! Shrug! Oh well... I've had worse damage.

I have only had hostas for about three years now, my 'Sum and Substance' was planted late last year, so I hope it will start showing much earlier from now on.
'Winter Snow' has the largest leaves and it was planted on the same day as my 'Sum and Substance'

The most growth by number of leaves is my 'Francee'

I had hail my first year with hostas and it tore them up pretty good. I was devastated because I had worked so hard planting these. They all came back beautiful the following year.
Rose, I think your plants are more mature. How many eye's does that have? I think I found my Sun and Substance if so I will need to move it really soon. It can never be a edging plant. LOL. Rolling on the floor laughing

No...Sum and Substance is not a good edge! I've had mine for several years, so that's probably why it's bigger than yours *Blush*

Not SS unless it has sported. SS is a solid light green. Pretty hosta though. Look at the pictures of SS on the data base and the hosta library. Could you have swapped tags with something near by?
