Apple Pan Dowdy

By Sharon
December 30, 2012

Long, long years ago when our colonists made their way across the ocean, they brought with them valuable things. One of those valuable things was the apple seed. From those seeds came so many different apple colors, textures and flavors, it's difficult today to make a choice.

You've been tickling me all day with things i didn't know about plants, Kentucky, or you, Sharon, and it's been so much fun. I had a crab apple in my back yard in Upstate New York (mountains!). My sister loved to eat them, but after a bite myself I couldn't do it. But there were plenty of orchards in the rural areas around us, so we would go apple picking every fall, sometimes with a friend or two with us, picking and picking and eating and eating. One ride back was spent grabbing our favorite and yelling, "MACK-intosh!" before scarfing it between giggles as fast as we could, over and over... I don't remember a stomach ache. No apple compares to those fresh from the tree.

It's actually gorgeous out, and I need to finish digging the new bed for the dahlias. I've been glued to the home office all day, and now there's barely daylight left. But your articles plus plants in the mail have given me a sufficient garden buzz for today...

Great that you enjoyed them. You'll have to share pictures of all your dahlias when they bloom. I grew up loving Mom's dahlias.
