I wasn't sure if Axle Rose had survived the winter as the heaters didn't keep up with back to back freezes. Not only did she come back, but she has a sport Smiling Will be interesting to see what if anything it does.

Ginger, you had better leave that one attached. It looks like an albino sport and won't survive off the mother plant.

Hi JT....Brenda and JR came over to collect brush that I had cut to chip and use for mulch. I showed it to her and she said the same thing...so "little sport" will remain with momma. So far it's hanging in there. I put the pot where it isn't in the full sun ALL the time. A summer time adventure Smiling

Are the green leaves on the same stem as the white ones? I had not heard of a sport until today. Had to look it up.

What is a Sport in the Plant World?

A sport in the plant world is a genetic mutation that results from a faulty chromosomal replication. The results of the mutation are a segment of the plant that is distinctly different from the parent plant in both appearance (phenotype) and genetics (genotype). The genetic change is not a result of unusual growing conditions; it is an accident, a mutation. In many cases the new trait can be handed down to the organism’s offspring.

Here is a sport that appeared in my garden years ago.I named it "Lemon Drop", propagated it and sent seed to seed Savers Exchange. They grew it and liked it.It is a super producer but not good for commercial use as the skin is too delicate to ship.I am working on that. This one is a sport of "Snow White Cherry".
