Here's Dark Dragon, the rose Michigan Bulb is selling as something new and exclusive.

http://www.michiganbulb.com/pr...

They included the registration name, JACpurr, which just happens to belong to a 1991 floribunda, Purple Tiger.

Rose (Rosa 'Purple Tiger')

New? Sure, give or take 23 years. Hilarious!

Is Michigan Bulb actually reliable for any type of plant they sell?

PPal - Not in my opinion. They sent me the teeniest little plugs ever.. half of them didn't even survive the shipping, let alone my climate. But they did refund me after I squawked enough.. they wanted to give me store credit & I told them to shove it.

I don't know whether it was the luck of the draw or a matter of better business practices in the past, but I still have some roses, clematises, and weigelas I bought from Michigan Bulb about 20 years ago.

Zuzu - 20 years ago, they were awesome. My mom still has some roses, Shasta daisies, & red hot pokers that she ordered back in 1989 that are still going strong. But they were bought up & I found that they & Wayside Gardens went straight to hell afterwards. I know this from personal experience.

They are owned by Gardens Alive. I am not sure, but I think GA now owns Weeks Roses, too.

Here's a link that list several of the companies owned by GA. I don't think this list is complete, but it gives you an idea of some of the "brands" they now own.

From what I've heard, every company they have purchased has gone downhill within a few years of their taking over the company. Of course, that is just green-industry gossip, so it may or may not be true.

Smiles,
Lyn
