Probably not most Hibiscus, but Hibiscus moscheutos from which most of the "Hardy" Hibiscus are created, is native to Michigan. Also H. laevis, another North American hardy Hibiscus is native to that area also.

Gloria, I over winter my tropical hibiscus in a heated greenhouse. I cut mine back in Fall and have them sitting on black painted 2ltr bottles with water in them. The soil temperature stays in the upper 40's to low 50s. They do just fine.

That's no problem. For now, you'll want to feed your tropical once or twice a month, give it full sun and lots of water. I fed mine Miracle Grow for years until I found some tropical hibiscus specific plant food.

Keep checking where your hardy hibs are .. I know mine like the soil temperature around 60 degrees before they start coming up. Once you see them coming up feed them!

With both you can plant in the ground then dig up and pot in the fall .. keep the hardy's in a garage during winter and the tropical indoors.

Not really .. It just occurred to me I have never bought a hibiscus .. always traded seeds and cuttings!

I'm sure someone else can make suggestions.

Thought I lost all my seedlings over the winter but they are all coming back. Will proubly get no blooms this year but by next year they should bloom.
I started mine from seed and winter sowed them 2012.
