Last Saturday the Utah Iris Society held the first of it's 2 sanctioned shows. The day before some of the gardens had wind, rain, and some hail so our number of entries was down a little,,,about 110. I never remember s show where we commented on how perfect the weather had been. Here are some pictures......

Awesome Paul, I've never gone to an iris show, I have no idea how they are conducted. I guess I should visit one.

Great photos of a wonderful event. Next best thing to being there is a photo tour. Did you enter anything this year Paul?

I LOVE Mesmerizer! And especially like that second to last arrangement. You have a good eye as to which of the best to choose. Smiling

I didn't enter this year. First, I was a little lazy Shrug! My second reason is that the morning of the show I had to take my oldest grandson to the SLC Airport at 5 AM. The airport is about 50 miles from my home. Then if I had taken entries I would have had to wait for 2 hours for the showroom to open. It was just to complicated. I did spend the day at the show though visiting with old friends.

Great photos Paul! Thumbs up

Great to see a photo of Mesmerizer, mine died this winter so I never got to see it bloom.

So which iris won best of show?

Intoxicating won best specimen. It also won at a show 2 years ago. A good iris......

Great post and virtual visit, I have never been to a flower show. It's ironic as I've worked within 300 feet from the door of a local conservatory that hosts such events as our state AHS Daylily events. I've only visited the conservatory once in all the years I've worked near or driven by.

When I think of flower shows I think of Aunt Bee from The Andy Griffith Show. Title is "It's Only a Rose" and free for (re) view on youtube and tvland. If you're feeling nostalgic it's good episode, I watched it earlier after searching the title. LOL.

Thanks for posting, I'll have to watch for something similar to attend this year. I've never seen flowers judged. I judge my own but it should prove interesting. I don't hybridize (yet) but I'd enjoy the show for sure. Even roses.

I gave some small seedlings to a friend a couple of years ago. She raised it and brought it but the judges said that because I made the cross it should be ID'd as my seedling. Silk and Honey pictured on this thread was the pod parent.....

The ISM show is this year & I bet is mostly medians, as I don't think many will have TBs by Memorial Day. We alternate show & sale years as the same people do all the work.

We do also, but we are too far away for that chore.
