I have this for at least 6 years. Ever green, even in our terrible winters 2010/11 it hardly froze back then. Always blooms this time of year clear up to our first frost and is VERY well behaved, stays in it's own little spot. Produces seeds but I only see a few come up here and there, but that very well could be because it's where they would be mowed on a regular basis. Drought tolerant and never get's any fertilizer. About 12 in. high and 18 in. around.

That's beautiful! Love that color!

Yes, definitely a Scutellaria from the calyx structure... but which one? I take it the leaves are entire (not toothed)? Do the veins join at the leaf margin... maybe you could just add a photo of the entire plant?

Hey Lin,
S. arenicola leaves aren't smooth on the edges, my Scutellaria are, and the blooms are much darker.
I know all computers show colors a little differently, but mine screen is showing these exactly how they look. A very dark blue.
Thanks tho !

Lori,
Leaves are not toothed, you can see the veining pretty well in the above pic also.

I'll get a pic of the whole plant.

Also, I did get this in a trade, I just don't remember from who, as it's been 6 years I know. So it's not necessarily native to Florida.

The 2nd photo shows the same blooms as the original photo above, but from the back.

Did a little more searching.
Scutellaria baicalensis seems pretty close is some images, but in others that I found the leaves seem narrower.

It looks more like Scutellaria javanica to me.

Plants labeled as Scutellaria javanica 'Veranda' were widely sold about 5-6 years ago.

S. javanica looks to be very close. I found this site when googling, photo's of different varieties showing leaves, blooms etc.

Definitely not S. baicalensis. It does look like S. javanica, though some photos of it show entire leaves and some show toothed leaves.

Ok....S. javanica it is. I got it in a trade about 6 years ago, so maybe that person got it from a nursery somewhere.
