Volcanic Eruption is a bright one. So is Spell Fire. I know that Spell Fire is a heavy bloomer and reblooms reliably here. It was photogenic for me.

Anybody out there growing any of the above have any comments on any of them? Any thing that makes them stand out in your mind, or makes them a really must have plant. Any positive or negative comments? Do they do well in the shade, hold their color in the sun, drought tolerate, grow in the sand or clay? Trying to pull comments if possible on each plant, even if they do or don't do well in a particular zone, that would really be helpful!

This thing has a very bright huge 9 inch bloom

:
If anyone grows this and has some good pics of it the data base could use a few. Doesn't look very showy from the current ones available.

Sue Rothbauer
:
Love this bright color, this plant has a 1.0 rust resistance rating, a 6. 5 inch bloom, but it is only 20 inches. I really do like everything about it but the short height.

Seed, I admire your attempts to get everyone to post comments about the plants. I promise that I will do that, as soon as I have time. Thumbs up

I grow Sue Rothbauer, and it is a favorite of mine. I also wish that it was taller, but it is going to stay. I use it a lot for hybridizing, and it's really fertile, both pod and pollen. Had a gorgeous seedling from it that I left behind when we moved, since it hadn't bloomed yet. I saw it a couple of months after moving, and I didn't have a shovel, or time to borrow one. It was much taller though, so I was happy to see that.

The color on mine wasn't nearly as bright as the one above. It was more like this one

Natalie,
Yes that is the type of comments we need, does the plant in your garden look like the photos?

I have found a nice folding style military shovel can be stored in the car for such emergencies.

Even better than a comment on what the plant looks like in your garden, I like to see photos of what it looks like. That is the best part of the database to me. I love seeing it in various gardens.

I agree Natalie. Love seeing the pictures, and my favorite are clump shots, Those really show whether the bloom is down in the foliage or not.

Yes clump shots are great, I am way to guilty of just trying to show the bloom, I should always do both.

I tend to do that too, seed. I am afraid my daylilies got rust pretty bad last year, so I really didn't want to take clump shots. This year, I am hoping for less rust.

That's great! I have been spraying Neem Oil. Sprayed twice two weeks apart and am hoping that that will curb it, but I have seen a few spots.

Some of my best, brightest color daylilies are:

Baby Betsy, a very clear pink that attracts the eye without being garish, and beats the heat and sun, staying pretty close in color all the way through the day. Not a huge amount of blooms, but enough to keep the garden nicely spiced up:

Entire plant, morning color, and early evening color after 100 degree full-sun day
Thumb of 2014-06-11/chalyse/7c9356 Thumb of 2014-06-11/chalyse/db5aca

Beaufort Slim Pitkin is vibrant, big, and really anchors the garden with its good form. A steady bloomer.
Full plant (the scape in front with partly opened bud) and 3 pm photo from 100 degree day - color virtually the same as morning opener, though I should note it is blooming in full shade.

Answering Angels has been a very strong garden bloomer with lots of buds, and the mix of purple and cream is great for punctuating solid color in the garden. I enjoy that each blossom is fairly consistent in pattern, but may have some beautiful variation all its own, too. Very good color retention in full/hot sun and haven't seen any "burning" (no very dark spots or crumpling up) during day of bloom. Photos show full plant, normal morning color, and close-up of color after a day of 100 degrees full sun in my garden.
