New thread. We came from here. http://cubits.org/orchids/thre...

Yesterday I made my ritual pilgrimage to a local hiking spot a few miles from home to see the ladyslippers. Cypipedium acaule.

Lovely pictures, Kathy.
Swamp pink - we have that one, I had no idea what it was.
The Cyp acaule look wonderful, nice sturdy plants, good density in the stands. Some are also very light in color, some darker. Very pretty!
You have also Cyp parviflorum, how great is that. We have never seen them at our place in Pennsy. I would have a heart attack coming across some. Lovey dubby
Thanks for taking these pictures, I love it!

The parviflorums are further down the trail so only some of us know where they are. I have been going there since 1980 to see them.

I also went to my friend's iris garden in the next town over and got some beardeds today. She sells them and her son sells beardless irises.

I don't think the serenity prayer was meant for gardens, but every time I look at your neighborhood, I start repeating it. Drooling

Yesterday morning "in Pennsy", I grabbed my Camera and visited the neighbor's slope right next to our place. It is a wildflower heaven and the slope is just loaded with Lichen.
I spotted a couple of new (on this location) Lichen, the weather must have been perfect for them, they all looked great. I just went through my wonderful book ( Lichens of North America) and tried to compare and identify. I hope I did it correctly!
These charming miniatures are so easily overlooked and many of the pretty details are only revealed with some magnification.
Here is the slope -

Cladonia cristatella, British Soldiers
Thumb of 2011-06-07/Ursula/21ff19

Cladonia cervicornis var verticillata, Ladder Lichen
Thumb of 2011-06-07/Ursula/f11f45

I have never seen the next one in this location, this is possibly Cladonia pleurota, the Red-fruited Pixie-cup.

Here is another new one, although I did spot this one last year in the Ramapo mountains.
Dibaeis baeomyces, Pink Earth Lichen
Thumb of 2011-06-07/Ursula/c227b5 Thumb of 2011-06-07/Ursula/3ead34

And another Pixie-cup, surely one of the Cladonias or perhaps false Pixie-cup, Cladonia chlorophaea

I am happy you two enjoy them!
One could spend hours at that slope and always see something new. And later in the year, providing the weather is favorable, we find there Platanthera lacera and Spiranthes cernua.

Wow, I love those lichens, Ursula. I need to explore the ground more closely. My eyesight is not what It used to be. For awhile I just thought all of the plants I used to enjoy when walking in the woods had disappeared, but a few years ago, when I finally got new glasses, they all came back. I think it is that time again. The only bad part of it is that all the wrinkles around the eyes come back, too!

Jo, thanks so much. If you were to look for them, try to look for sloped, rocky areas with poor gravelly soil. It is your best bet to find the ones I posted.

Wow: Lovely plants and pictures. Fell a upon this forum/thread somehow by exploring. As I said, I am all over cubits exploring and now I need to know if there ever was or going to be a plant share or co-op for some of those Lady slippers and primulas. Newbie to cubits. Just point me to the right directions if I am posting in the wrong thread/forum. Thanks everyone. having a great new experience here. Still wants some of these plants.
