thank you Janice... took some update shots this morning.. the 2nd one is the one the birds are beating up.. the pot on the right middle.. the plants are beat to heck.. I stuck a self seeded agastache in there for fill .. figured it was something I didn't pay for.. if it gets trashed.. oh well
and I do have containers to go up on the parrot post.. just haven't gotten to put up the hangers yet
this one needed a close up.. is my fav for the moment
eaten by critters.. the spv is just starting to recover
box planter .. tree stump needs to go after this year.. broken down too much
Allison I have never seen anything like your Bonfire around here. The foliage is so different, it fascinates me.
Could you start me some? Do I have something you would like?
I just took a photo of the Red Head coleus that I put in my coleus container yesterday. It's the red one.
would love a piece of your red head in return.. I will see if I can find some pieces without blooms for you and see what I can get done.. last year I kept em outside and in the shade.. kept em moist and they were good to go.. I entered this shot in the DG contest last year.. love the red edge to the foliage too
The photo is beautiful. They wouldn't survive winter outdoors here. How do you take them through the winter? How do you take your coleus through winter?
You need to teach me what to do the get healthy cuttings from the Red Head coleus.
you can always send it to me unrooted.. just cut it the day you ship .. wrap a damp paper towel around the bottom and cover that with a baggie or plastic wrap.. but if you want to do it... cut it below a node... cut off the bottom sets of leaves... stick it in soil.. keep it in the shade and don't let it dry out.. it's that easy.. if you have root tone or something like it.. it never hurts to dip it..
I always take cuttings coming up on fall.. and keep everything in the house under lights.. don't have any good windows.. as for the bonfire.. I brought it in.. right in the pot it was in.. watered every now and then.. it went dormant.. and came back to life (to my surprise) a few weeks before winter ended.. worked out great.. once I saw nubs sticking out from the bulb.. I started watering more often..
I am wondering if Brinda had photos posted on a how to.. I will check
The cutting of Bonfire will eventually make a bulb? Boy I feel so dumb.
Did you see Neil's article on Hampton Court Pallace Flower Show? There are some amazing photos he took of walls of coleus. http://garden.org/articles/vie...
Bummer, went to look at that link, won't let me see the thread. I am no longer a member. : (
Oh well, I'll just follow your instructions.
