This was a piece of redhead that I broke off and stuck in the dirt. It stretched for light, leaves got as big as hydrangea leaves.

wow your gallardia stays so nice for you.. mine usually spread out all over.. what the shot daisy type flower ... edge of driveway maybe?.. amazing how many look like shrubs for you... just love it.. I never had any luck growing them in the ground.. but I do try and try again.. I really should grow some bigger plants over the winter.. instead of tons of small ones

Be still my heart. Ok Karen, that settles it. I want my beds to look like yours. And I thought all the coleus had to go into the shade. I see you are growing some of them in direct sun.

Your yard is just fabulous. Please forgive me for copying your copyrighted photo, but I didn't know how else to do it. If you want me to delete the photo, just let me know.
Anyway,
1.can you tell me what the red circled plants are
2. did you start all of your coleus from seed?
3. did you winter sow everything?
4. what on earth do you feed your coleus to grow them so tall and wide?
5. are they all in the ground or the higher ones in the back in pots?

Absolutely fabulous.

I'll jump in here and say the red circled flowers in front of the photo look like Zinnia profusion.
and there are tall coleus varieties.

Yes, those circled daisy- like flowers are profusion zinnias. Very easy to start from seed. I use the wintersowing method (milk jug, outside) but I don't sow them until spring- around April 1. The next one circled is coleus, inky fingers. The circled purple flowered one in the background is verbena homestead purple.

Debbie, none of my coleus are seed types, they're all vegetatively propagated ones (i.e. grown from cuttings), sun tolerant. Most have come from Rosy Dawn Gardens.

It's around 100° now, and my coleus are the best looking thing in my garden. Nothing else looks as good! And they're about the easiest to maintain, too.

Thank you so much Karen. And I am very blessed to have all of your notes from the winter sowing thread you had at DG. Hurray! I'm also happy that I can just purchase my coleus. I'm not into over wintering them and I just love it when the new babies arrive from Rosie Dawn's. Did you get all of those this past spring?

I cant exactly remember but I believe the sale only lasts a few weeks. One dollar off is worth it when putting in large orders.

Debbie, I've bought most of my coleus from Rosy Dawn over the last couple of years. I start new ones from cuttings from my plants each fall, and over winter them in the house.

Yes, those tall domes are great, and have adjustable vents in the top. I think it's these that I have.
