Hello all!!! I would like to start a new thread each week with a featured sempervivum or jovibarba. The goal will be to find out as much information as possible about the semp as well as the hybridizer in hopes that we can confirm the identity of some of the sempervivum that we have here in the United States. Please post your photos of your sempervivum with a date that the photo was taken as well as any observations such as cilia, tufting, leaf shape, rosette shape and any other distinguishing characteristics.
I would like to start with Sempervivum 'Dream Catcher'.
I have had this semp for about 2 years. The max size for my Dream Catcher is about 4". The leaves at this time of the year are smooth with a cilia around the edges. It is primarily a dark maroon with a green at the base. Last year, it did display a crested form. I did a quick search regarding the hybridizer, Janis Noyes, I did not find much info on her other than she is also the hybridizer of 'Maya'. Please put on your detective caps so that we can gain some knowledge about 'Dream Catcher'!!!

Hi Sandy;

very good idea Thumbs up

'Dream Catcher' has been introduced by SMG in 2001; we know nothing about Janis Noyes; but there are two cultivars named 'Maya' - one breeded by Martin Haberer and introduced 1980 and that one from Janis Noyes introduced 2002 - so we give it the name-addition '( II )' because it is the later one....

Maya - Martin Haberer / Germany / 1980
Maya ( II ) - Janis Noyes / USA / 2002

Thank you Peter! Very good information. So I guess if some of received Dream Catcher from SMG, we can confirm that it is the true hybrid. Any other info out there about this semp?

So its just a coincidence that the semp "Clara Noyes" has the same last name as the hybridizer of those 2 semps?? Odd! Whistling

Hey @picklepuff, I don't want to derail this thread but I was just wondering if you had any more info about your 'Sea of Tranquility' semp. I can't find anything about it anywhere.

Everyone put your Semp Sleuth hats on to see if we can find more information on Janis Noyes.

Here is a photo of my Dream Catcher from last year in June.

Ok, this is what I found out
Janice Noyes is the Daughter of John and Joyce Hoekstra Owners of Squaw Mountain Gardens.
Looks like she graduated from high school 1960 from West Linn High http://westlinnhigh1960.blogsp... If to scroll down Janice Hoekstra Noyes
She wrote an article called All in The Family for The Nurseryman 12/15/1993
She also did a lecture or something Called the Succulent Corner for the Winter Hardy Cactus and Succulent Association
