I always see Tanacteum coccineum Robinson's Mix Painted Daisy advertised as having Red, Pink and White flowers but after growing a whole package of seeds, I have yet to see a white one. I have never seen a white one at a nursery either. Of course white is the color I want! Anyone else actually seen a white one come from a seed packet? I tried growing Shasta Daisies and they are way too aggressive for me, I was hoping to replace with the white painted daisies.

I was able to find Tanacetum niveum 'Jackpot' which is white.

Those look pretty but they seem like a totally different style plant. They almost remind me of a mounding aster. I was trying to get that tall daisy like effect.

Chrysanthemum leucanthemum, ox-eye daisy, is a different species than is being talked about.
Can't say I've ever seen a white Tanacetum coccineum either... The fact that the genus name is "coccineum" (red) probably explains why white ones are unusual.

There is the Dalmatian Pyrethrum:
Pyrethrum cinerifolia or chrysanthemum cinerifolia.
It is similar to the Robinsons, but white.
I think it may be a more potent pyrethrum than the coloured ones?

I saw that one as well. I think I might try it and see how it does! Thanks everyone. I would still love to hear if anyone gets a white one when starting the seeds commonly sold as Robinson's Mix. Most of the packets or atalogs say in colors pink, carmine, scarlet and white. I have the carmine and lighter pink but never a white. I also don't consider Robinson's Red a red. More like scarlet to me.

Here are some pics from the web that show them in white. There are others too. If anyone had gotten a white one, I'd like to know where they got the seeds because so far I've had no luck! :)

Personally, the ones I'd like are the very red ones... or at least the strong pink ones. However, every one I've ever planted has been a pale, wishy-washy pink!

I want to grow these beside the delphiniums, as that delphinium bug is done in by pyrethrum.
There has been no whites from the ordinary mixes.
Horizon Herbs had the Dalmatian one.

Yeah Growitall, kind of like the pinks I got!? Lol

Yes Caroline, I saw them at Horizon Herbs, I was just worried they wouldn't have as nice of a habit for the garden, only because I figure if they aren't popular there has to be a reason? I could be wrong though.

No, Meredith, your pinks are mostly stronger colours than I've ever gotten! Mine always turned out to be like your third one at best... very pretty, but not what I had in mind.

Well thank you! I was kind of like blah with them. It is funny how our tastes change over the years. When I first started gardening I thought white flowers were boring. Now I am on a white kick and trying to find different plants in whites!

Those are beautiful!
I think the problem I had with the Becky type Shasta was that it forms a huge dense clump. I still have them just in a different area and Iwant to move them. They need a big space. I am looking for something that just pops through the other plants here and there to fill in gaps between Daylilies and other perennials. The Daylilies don't bloom until later on in July and I have Dafs in there so it has to be something that doesn't spread much but just scatters about.

I also tried Shasta Daisy from seed which look similar to Becky but they are basically a weed here. Reseeding all over the place even managing to get a flower up if you go a tad too long between mowings. I have too many plants that want to take over the world and I prefer the mild mannered ones for my smaller beds. I am always weeding as it is. Smiling
Oh and they get very messy looking quickly in the season. Flopping and such.
