Sounds like it was a great day of sharing the love of daylilies with others! Congrats to you and your daughter - the sweepstakes stone is truly a stunning memento for all the hard work you must have done!

All the work was worth it! Lol....wish I had not been so tired when I met you.
Did you buy any other daylilies besides the one I saw you with??? You may not want to know, but they were giving away what was left at the sales table at 5pm. Got quite a few for the school garden. A few that were still there included: hush little baby, peacock maiden, little pleasure, Peggy bass, and love fest.

Oh! May I join the GCDHS even though I'm in California?! I would soooo be hanging around till 5 for those cultivars, even at the $5 price. Amazing and awesome!

I tag a few scapes the day before that I think will open.
I get up at the crack of dawn the day of the show and look over my scapes to decide what to cut ( some friends actually go out before dawn with a flashlight).
I cut the scapes with the cleanest look and best open flower(s).
I use to put tape over a plastic tote( with a little water in the bottom) in a checkerboard pattern to hold scapes up right. I that've also filled the tote with plastic water bottles and place scapes in those. Now I place a plastic crate upside down in the tote and use the holes in the crate to hold up the scapes. One or 2 members of my club even made PVC carriers. I will try to find a picture.
At the show you "groom" the scape. Clean, cut off brown bracts, cut fresh bud scars,
Make sure there is no pollen on the petals.......
Here is the AHS link about transporting daylilies to shows, I use mainly the board in the first photo but have used the second one also. http://www.daylilies.org/Trans...
I have gone out with the flashlight you wear on your head to cut scapes

Our "mr head table" cuts his likely scapes the night before, and puts them in a bucket of water in his garage. Two big reasons -- they're protected from the elements in case of inclement weather overnight, and the overnight soaking makes it easier to groom them on show day.
He made a contraption with pvc pipes to carry them to the show. Whatever he does, works. There's a reason I call him "Mr Head Table."
Northwest Georgia Daylily Society I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do that second week. My yard marches to the beat of a bohemian drummer...
