LOL@Sandy's wonderful entry and Blue Ribbon. Hurray! I say, it's all in the presentation. It looked beautiful in the cloche. You probably could put a weed in a gorgeous setting and make it a winner!

I planted 50 Lycoris in a long skinny bed last year. I was told it would take a year for them to bloom. This is the single bloom of all 50 bulbs, even after the rain we've had the last few weeks.

Hmmm, I'm not waiting another year. I'm going to let the grass grow over that bed.

The Datura is from seed that I found last fall that had to be at least two years old. I dropped a few in a succulent pot before I put things away for winter. I saw the Datura seedlings emerge in the pot around February. This plant grew long and spindley and the purple of the flowers faded with each round of blooms. I'm sure the lack of consistent watering this summer had something to do with it, but sowing old seeds may have been a problem also. Looks like it's about to croak now. I did save some seeds, but I wonder if they will produce even more faded flowers?

One of my friends who grows alot of datura says the hybrid ones don't come back true. She is a seed saver, but doesn't save those

I've heard that about other hybrid flowers too.

Here's a pic of the bloom from one of your cuttings Bubbles ~ I can't recall its name right now. Smiling

Looks like Charles Grimaldi, a Brugmansia. Nice! Thanks for posting it. You should add it to the database.
