*sigh* not buying any more plants at all this year at all except for a tree to replace one I lost. I don't know what I'm doing as far as staying/moving, so don't even want to be tempted.

PPal - I can't garden. That's the problem. I can't. Other than weed.. and what fun is that? I'll hopefully know by the end of the month.. and by that time it's too late. So 2014 is shot for me. Either stay or go, it's shot in either direction as far as adding. *shrug* Oh well, there's always next year.

Toni,
There's another way to look at it, and it's not a bummer.
This is your year to garden as if your garden is going to be featured in Fine Gardening, or Better Homes and Gardens, or whichever one you want.
Fine tune everything. Make it perfect. Work as if it's the final draft of your gardening dissertation. You can't add any more, but you can edit and polish and reexamine every component.
Whether you move or not, it will be time well spent.

Cindi - That would be a nice if I hadn't lost about 1/2 of my roses from that last snow we got right after Mother's Day... and if I have to sell the house, there's no way I'm going to be able to sell the house with the yard the way it is.. this yard is definitely not child friendly and so I'll probably end up giving away the roses to a memorial garden or something, then putting in sod. BLEH. I hate grass.. so boring..

Toni, why wouldn't you take your favorite plants with you when you move (if you have to move)?

Zuzu - I will be taking a few, but I don't relish the idea of trying to transplant roses living in my cooler, very much so dryer Colorado to hot & humid Texas in the middle of August. And I. September the roses will start to go into hibernation for the winter, and I've already been told that the way the yard is is a extreme detractor from selling the house. That's why I have to do sooooo much work.. I will have to completely repaint the house inside & out.. Redo the yard... Ugh. But at the same token I'll be able to grow SOOOO much more interesting plants in TX versus here!!! Yay!! Which means I can take FULL advantage of these sales and get the roses ASAP rather than waiting until the weather holds!

Don't pay too much attention to realtors and their obsession with the mythical "average buyer." Their advice sometimes backfires. I've never bought a house because of the way it looks; I buy it because of the way I think I can make it look. I usually start by stripping the place to the bare bones.

A former owner once came to pick up some mail after I had bought his house and was removing all of the wall-to-wall carpeting, taking the paneling off the walls, and removing the fake brick from around the fireplace. He told me that he had taken his realtor's advice to make all of those "improvements" in the month before he listed his house. I was too polite to tell him that I would have offered much more for the house if I hadn't had to consider all of the time and trouble involved in removing the "improvements."

I also have my own color preferences and I've never bought a house without immediately repainting, inside and out.

If the changes are quick and easy, make them. If they'll take a lot of money and effort, they might not be worth it.

These roses will be well worth the $10, Trish. They're 1-gallon roses, but they're usually the ones that are on the verge of outgrowing those containers. Roses Unlimited puts them on sale to avoid having to move them into larger containers.
