Brugmansia 'Short Standards'

Almost everyone likes “standards,” those nice straight tree brugs. Standards form well-shaped canopies and make a great display when they bloom. Unfortunately, not all plants want to grow in the shapes we like best.

Great, great article on how-to, JT! Standards take up much less room, IMHO, and really display the flushes. Thanks for addressing this, for all of us!

I 'm making shorter standards the lazy way- mine are still attached to the plant. I have "installed" a pot of good soil wrapped around the "trunk" of about 16 brugs, @ around half-way up the trunk. This is necessary (for me!) when you are hybridizing and don't want to have to climb a ladder to pollinate blossoms or collect pollen. Especially useful for brugs that climb for the stars, like Naughty Nick or Salmon Perfektion.
