Okay. I thought I was smart. All the plants I received I numbered them and had a list to coordinate with the number ====Name on the computer. Then the computer was stolen. Now I have the plants numbered and no names. Rolling on the floor laughing

Only one was locked and password. The other was not. One was new and in the box never used. I found it on sale and I thought it was a good idea to have a spare since it was almost tax time and I do all my family taxes. One has all their info on it and it is not locked. I got every one the security check insurance. I could kick myself for not password that computer.

One year after I finished the last tax my computer died and I did not have back up of all the taxes I did that week. I had to pay IRS to get copies for everybody. I do 8 people every year.

Best place to store info you really need to save is on a Data-stick or Flashcard,.Keeps you from taking up memory space on actual computer.you can usually get 3-8GB Data-sticks at Walmart for less than $20 . holds a lot of info safe & sound
1 GB will hold at least 1,000 pics. I'm into my family genealogy and and have 500 years of info on a 16 GB stick so far.
cliff- I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.

I use Carbonite backup. I've had my computer crash once since and they were able to recover every single picture and document I had.

Rolling on the floor laughing I think we will surprise you.

I have a back of external drive that was 50.00. I have been backing files and my pics on it for 4 yrs and still have space to back up for the next 4 yrs.

I had the plan of printing off the list walk around and note how many babies it made. I made a list with columns so I could do it for 2 yrs. Some of the ones that I got trade have 6 little babies sprouting around the mamma. I cut up strips of plastic and numbered each one with a bright orange reflective paint pen. The numbers are very visible but without the list they are just inmate number whatever.

Lynn, Carbonite is an automatic "cloud" backup. You basically don't even know it's doing anything. If your computer crashes, you contact them and everything gets downloaded back on your new computer. http://www.carbonite.com I think it costs about $60 a year, but to me, just having a computer crash one time makes it worth it. I got every single file back.

Chris with all the cyper break ins and since I was doing people's taxes I have become paranoid with the cloud storage anymore. I would feel safe with pics but sensitive documents I just do not trust the cloud anymore.

I don't put anything personal on my computer, and I certainly understand your concerns with that.

I have signs that I make on the computer, then laminate, and put in each block of plants. Just to be on the safe side, I also write (artist's pencil on white pot tags) and BURY THE 'NOTE TO SELF' at the right edge of the each block of plants. That way, if some unruly kid (and this has happened to me more than once) pulls out one or more of the big signs, I can still identify the clumps because the little sob doesn't know to look for and/or pull the hidden tag.

I emailed my list to myself so if I lose my computer again it will be in my email. I do not like to see tags in the garden so the numbers are buried with a decorative rock over the numbers.
