That's so cool, Donald! I also have Sans that came from my Gramma. We think it's been around for about 80 years. I've sent pieces to so many people, now I'm sure it will live forever out there, even if someday the plants I have are not around for some reason (like, *I* can't live forever.)

This summer, they are vacationing in the ground at my Mom's house:

My hanging baskets are all just continuing from last year. I'd planned to repot them this spring, but I'm going to put that off until next spring. They are not the 'usual flowering annuals' but I like them and prefer plants with more longevity. I just put pics of some of them here last night:

Tiffany, do you bury the pots?
Great photos on the link.

I think you and Donald are making me consider getting a sansevieria. What lovely architectural plants they are.

I will keep my eye out for one and give it a try. Smiling

Home Depot often has them in their indoor houseplant section. I have the "birdsnest" type. These guys multiply real quick

Here you go, Lynn. They are very short with slightly twisted foliage. These have grown on my kitchen sill for years. They make offset pups until they get too crowded then I have to dump, separate and start over. As you can see they need dividing now. If you want me to save you some let me know.

I think they will work very well with the container I got from Bev, the oblong one only about two inches deep. They will love that! Not much soil and not much water.

I've been thinking, (watch out Hilarious! ) these are house plants here, but the leaves are succulent-like and it requires infrequent waterings. I think they would work great in a mixed container of tender succulents, the type that you have to bring in for the winter. I'm going to try it out when I get some tender succs. to go with it.

I love the little Birdsnest Sansevieras too and have been growing them with other succulents for years. They do incredibly well together. The variegated is especially happy dry. It will rot in a snap if watered too regularly and in the wrong soil. I think these would look incredible with your Simpervivums too as an effect Lynn. Smiling

Lynn, I put them loose in the ground so they would have room to make tons of pups. Last year I sent extras to about a half dozen people. Fun!

Hi Tiffany. What do you mean by 'loose in the ground'?

Great photos David.

Connie, what kind of soil are you growing yours in?

Just plain potting soil, Lynn. It is flexible so soil used should be appropriate for the companion plants which likely will be more fussy. I counted six plants in this pot and the other pot is similar. They will "tell" you when they are thirsty-- the leaves will get a little leathery looking. I can't tell you how many of these I have composted every time I divide. Then at one of our garden club's seed/plant exchanges this one member brought about 30 separate divisions and refused to take the extras home so I was stuck with those.

In that Timber Press book about growing on tables and flat surface there is a cool photo of the tall type Sanseveria growing on a slab of granite with the shorter birds nest in front and maybe some type of sedum(?) also. The whole thing is backed to a stone wall. (page 176)

How long did it take to form that many new plants?
I am looking to see what I will plant it in. Decisions, decisions.

It doesn't take very long, Lynn. It seems to get slower as the pot gets overcrowded.

Lynn, I mean I took the plants out of their pots and dug holes and planted them in the ground, loose - without a pot. Sans multiply like Cannas, if they have the space to do it.

Last year my plants multiplied about 4x in number of rosettes while in the ground for summer. (Each rosette made about 4 babies.) The darker green parts are the older mamas. The lighter green parts are new after being put in the ground. (With Gladiolus, Cannas, Tradescantia pallida.)
