There are 50 sp in the Rio de Janeiro state! Couldn't find any match on the web.

Edited to say that I also need a parent page for Bidens.

I get confused when I find a main list for a plant but it doesn't specifically state that it's the general or parent plant. I found this one for Beggar Ticks (Bidens)

Thanks Lin for the links! ah I see why I didn't find Bidens, it is somewhere on the 3rd page..
I'm not familiar with the popular names of both genera, and that is mentioned first so I must have overlooked it.
Would it not be a good idea to put the parent always on top of the list?

Hi Myriam,
When you type Bidens into the search bar you get a list of pertinent results in no particular order, like searching the web with Google. Near the top of the page you will see the link Click here to view all plants in the genus: bidens.
http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Select that and Bootjack (Bidens) is at the top of the list.

Ah I see Evan, thanks. Well I didn't click on that link because in some popular genera like f.ex. Hemerocallis another link on top says, "Click here to view the parent plant for hemerocallis"

Myriam, That's the one thing about our database that has always confused me. Some Genera, for instance when you search for Hemerocallis you get:

"Click here to view the parent plant"
"The Parent Plant Entry for Daylilies (Hemerocallis)
Then you see: "This database entry is a "parent entry" The information below is applicable to all Daylilies.

But when you search for Bidens, you get:

"Click here to view all plants in the genus Bidens. Nothing that says click here to view the parent plant.

There are many genus in the database like that and I've learned to just scroll through until I find one that looks to be a parent plant or a "General" entry.

LOL, I'm not real good at explaining things but I'm so glad I'm not alone in my confusion regarding the database parent plant entries/general entries. It would be nice if it were consistent with every plant in the database having a parent plant entry at the top of the list ... but with nearly 640,000 plants that would be a huge undertaking.

There is a very subtle different between a parent plant and a custom database and this is where that confusion comes in. I need to at some point refine that and smoothen the differences out so it's more consistent.

Dave, you do such a phenomenal job with this website and for all of us here. At only 4 years old, our database is already a huge asset to all gardeners; I know it will only continue to improve over time as you find time to do the tweaks and adjustments. Lovey dubby

Thank you. And it's been only 2 and a half years, actually! The database project was started in Sep 2011. Smiling
