Boy -- that's a dark one, Lori! Do you still have Irises blooming?

Midnight Oil is a dark one. I do not have it. Lori, what is the 'blackest' iris you have ever grown?

No my irises are long gone, I just thought I would pop in with my black iris.
Midnight Oil is my only dark one to bloom this year so I really don't have anything to compare it to but it is pretty dark. It is really a beauty in person.

I may have to put that one on my list. I have several dark purple irises (and for a small yard I have too many) that I need to move out to make room for a really dark one. I have Coal Seams and it did not bloom this year. From the photos on here I have seen of its blooms it is another dark purple. I know there is not a truly black iris but....... Thank you for posting the picture of Midnight Oil Lori.

No problem! If it weren't the first year for it, I would send you some. If you can wait until next year and you remind me, I will send you one of it's increases.

I have Midnight Oil too, but mine didn't bloom this year, and is a very slow increaser. Not sure if that is true for Midnight Oil in general or just my rhizome that has always struggled. Here is a shot form last year -

It is a very dark iris but still is purple in the sun, as in my shot.

Thank you Lori. Leslie that is a lovely shot of it too. Even though it is purple it does look very dark. That may be the one...... now for the perfect blue.... lol

Yes, I would like some and I will gladly send postage. YIPPEE! I am looking for blues that are not totally purple. I have ordered a slew of them but maybe it is my soil. I enjoy them anyway. smiles.

I had to go look and much to my surprise, Midnight Oil is doing rather well. I planted it in July of last year and it has increases already and looks pretty healthy and strong to me. Maybe I just did something right for a change in that bed, everything looks good in that spot.
