I've been looking for Ficus sagittata variegata (aka F. radicans variegata) for years. Posted on the 'Tropicals' forum with over 1600 views, but no one has it. Anyone here have lead? It's a vining/trailing variety that grows very much like the more common F. pumila, although the leaves are larger. I've had some near misses with growers in FL, but no one has been able to connect me with this variety.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Paul

Have you considered Ficus benjamina ‘Variegata'? Look's pretty much the same .. there are some for sale on EBAY.

I'd sure love to see this plant on the market again; I'd love to have one! I wonder if/when Glasshouseworks will be getting it back in stock? http://www.glasshouseworks.com...

If you know of anyone who actually has one I'd be happy to fire up the cloning machine and root some cuttings.

Anne: I sure wish I could find someone who has this plant. I've lived in Florida 47+ years and I haven't seen it for sale in a very long time!

Englemann had/has it in their 'library' but doesn't grow it. GHW killed their stock plant, as did Liner Farm in FL.
As for the F. benjamina suggestion, while the look of the leaf is similar, I'm looking for a trailing/vining plant, not a tree/shrub. I've got F b 'Starlight' which is beautiful., just not what I'm looking for at this time.
I appreciate ANY efforts to help me land this nearly extinct variety!

Paul have you considered trying something else with similar characteristics?

There is a beautiful Algerian Ivy with very similar leaf colors

There's also a lovely jasmine groundcover Tricolor

Both of those are readily available.

I can't help but think that your variegated ficus has either reverted to all green, or died out from some plague or other. Nothing else explains why it seems to have disappeared. Somebody would have it at least in their garden, but you've been asking forever, and no hits.

Elaine, that's what I'm assuming, that the variegated version has ceased to exist. I've had a few variegated plants revert to solid green over the years ... a shame though if that's indeed what happened to the variegated form of Ficus sagittata. Sad

Heh, Paul I understand completely. Hilarious! It's a quest!
I see a few photos of that plant on Flickr posts. It might be possible to contact the posters and ask where the photos were taken, or have you already tried that?

Paul, try emailing Tallahassee Nurseries.
[email protected]

They have some pretty unusual things & if they don't have it, they may be able to tell you were you can get it.

This place has it on their plant list according to Google

Maybe an email campaign to botanical gardens? Ask first if they HAVE it. THEN ask for a cutting.

This seems to have a list of clubs and societies, one of whose interests is Ficus.
http://www.bonsaiginseng.net/f...

There is a Facebook group calling itself the ""International Ficus Society"".

I don't know what academic department would focus on Ficus, but you could get an infinite number of email addresses that way, to ask if they know someone else you could ask.

Good luck!
